The 80 GB version of PS3 is said to be discontinued in the USA. So I guess if it is true there is going to be only the 40 GB one left all over the world.

I am so glad i got the 60GB months after release. As for the 80GB, i haven't even seen ads about it and now they discontinue it?!

It wouldn’t surprise me if they did discontinue it. But like I have said before they will eventually be able to get ps2 games running on the 40gig ps3's. As they will want to put ps2 games on the playstation store eventually so that they can sell them to you again

Serious? Not allow us to play the PS2 game from the discs we already own, but to force us to purchase it again from the PSN Store? Damn that's low.
I don't own any PS2 games ... but I can imagine all the other PS2 owners being super pissed off ...

People getting the 40gb model shouldn't worry about missing out on backwards compatibility. The bc on the higher capacity ps3 models is really quite poor anyway. Most of the ps2 games I own ran so poorly on my 60Gb that I had to plug my Ps2 back in for when I want to play Ps1/Ps2 games.

Yeah, the upscaling would have been nice though, as well as a digital HDMI connection. But given how bad the BC was anyhow it is no loss.
You can still play PS1 games on a PS3 though.

no no i mean that you will be able to do both . but people may have traded there games in. so then they might be tempted to rebuy them from the store and thus sony make money. kinda like the wii and the virtual console.

Oh good point! So people who didn't own the game or don't own a PS2 can play those titles on the PS3, based on software emulation ... copying Wii's Virtual Console ... haha!
