hello sorry if this question has been covered nefore i looked on the forums and couldnt find if anyone else has asked but what i want to ask is can the ps3 play the old ps2 and ps1 games i was told by most people that it wont but i have heard wispers that it can be done with a software download but its not through the online with sony its an outside source i really want to know if this is possible as i am looking to get a ps3 this week and i dont want to have to have the two machines hooked up and i have to many games to just simply get rid of

Ok the 40gig PS3 units that you can buy in Aus at the moment can’t play PS2 games. They however can play PS1 games.

I won’t go into the details but suffice to say that it is possible that in the future that Sony will be able to get 40gig units to play ps2 games. But they haven’t said anything about it so don’t expect it any time soon.
