I've heard they don't work. I also heard a bit of talk at one stage (unverified) that its actually the games that are region free, thus being supported by the console, as I have heard a number of asian games that DO in fact have region locking.

Good question though, I'd be interested to find out for sure.

If you a having the 40GB version on PS3, of cuz I can not play PS2 games...but the 60GB version you can, the AUS version you can not play NTSC PS2 games....on the other the the USA/NTSC PS3 can play both...PAL and NTSC PS2 games...also PS2 games is not region free.....
