Social \ Evangelion 1.0 You Are (not) Alone.
Hay guys I don’t know if any one else here is a major fan of Evangelion like me. But I recently watched a fansub version of the 1st of the four new Evangelion movies. So I thought I give my impressions as well as a few screens from the film.
Rei Ayanami, Pilot of Evangelion unit-00
Well for those of you who don’t know Neon Genesis Evangelion is the story of 14 year old Shinji Ikari who is brought to Tokyo 3 in order to pilot humanities greatest weapon the Evangelion, A god made by man in mans own image. The Evangelions were made to battle the “angels” who seek to join with lilith and in doing so bring an end to all life on earth.
The angel Sachiel who attacks toyko-3 at the begining of the flim.
Most of the new film is a shot for shot re-animation of the original show. There are how ever some major differences in the way the plot progress. The first movie deals with the events in the show leading up to the battle with Ramiel. (Episodes 1-6 of the original show) The battle with Ramiel is the most drastically different part of 1.0 from the original show and gives Ramiel many new abilities.

Oh Anime Is kool don't dis it.
I used to be a big ass fan of Evangelion but then it started to get weird but with this movie I think i might start watching it again.

Not the biggest evangelion fan. I think it's messed up for the sake of being messed up rather than actually have a good meaning behind it all (kudos if what I just said made sense to you). There are better anime out there, and while evangelion should be applauded for being one of the first mature anime to gain mainstream attention in western society, I'm not a fan.
So judging by the summary, these movies are just a retelling of the original series?

I enjoyed the original series, but like a lot of anime, it got to convoluted and pretentious towards the end. Too many WTF moments.
Still consider it a great show though. Had some great characters.

Well at least this first movie was. But by the look of the preview for the 2nd of the 4 movies. It is going to be drastily different from the orginal show. With new charicters and every thing.

See I really enjoyed EVA towards the end. I think if you just look at it at face fallue it dosnt make a lot of sense. But mostly it was them trying to tell the story of the end of the world. but not having the animation budget to do so

Yeh its definatly interesting. You can pick the DVD's up of the orginal series at a lot of video rental shops around or at most JB hifi's.

Those movies dont look very new, the animations still look old. Anime's only appeal to me if they have excellent animations, such as Death Note, which has to be the best anime ever...in terms of the artwork. Though my firend in a big evangelion fan so I will have to tell him about this.

Looking forward to seeing this moviw have been a big fan of the series. Just hope they can get the orignal voices for when it is released in english.

See personaly I love the artstyle and direction of evanglion. And i'm not a huge fan of the death note artstyle(but i do like the show). But the animation it self on these new movies is really good. the final battle of the movie is really epic.

The ova's death and rebirth and the end of evangelion were just glorified "clip shows" and it sounds like there at it again.
Still I'll source a copy when the dub is available, I don't ming dubs if there done well and i am used to all the characters talking english.

Evangelion was the show that got me into that genre. I won't be seeking the movies out if they are only rehashes of the series.

Well the first movie is. But based on the trailer for the 2nd movie they are going to be drastically different from the show.
