Sony’s PlayStation 3 provides numerous A/V output hookups. The upcoming console comes with not one but two HDMI outputs, and PlayStation 3 will be able to utilize both at the same time to output two 1080p video streams at the same time allowing for dual-screen HDTV gaming.

I remember reading all the different hook ups they were planning on shipping prior to launch and I was just like 'cool, but the world isn't quite there....'

Man, the prototype model had two additional USB ports on the back, as well as 2 HDMI ports and 3 Gigabit ethernet ports:

I think the design philosophy changed a bit towards launch, I mean I remember the way they were talking about the idea of 2 HDMI made sense, but again, not there yet
Cool pic though, I was trying to remember what it looked like

Yeah but I think what the PS3 was targetted as originally was something quite different. I mean what we have now is a Game/Bluray/Mediacenter with some other stuff like the web browser. I think Sony had it the machine targeted as something much more expansive back in development
So it wouldn't have just been extra ports that raised the cost, but what the machine was going to do

Yeah, i'd rather pay for processing power rather than extra outputs for peripherals, only need 1 HDMI anyway..or there can be a new breed of console gaming...enthusiast console gamer

lol, 2 grand for some extra peripherals?
It wouldn't have been feasible for Sony to do so even for the minority who would pay the extra premium.

Some people don't have wireless routers.
Wired LAN usually has better transfer rates.

To be fair, its a damn great idea. Imagine full screen gaming running off the one console. I wish they had done it. I would have used it for sure.
