Looking to get a Gps just want to know 1 or 2 things first.
when i buy one for whatever price. is that all i have to pay or is there like a monthly or yearly fee i have to pay as well

you dont have to update them if u dont wanna... but as you would know maps change, prices depend on the make and model of the unit so its hard to say the exact amount... saying that tho you can 'acquire' maps through the internet...if you get my drift

I've got TomTom installed on my Nokia N80. You can get regular map updates, but I won't bother. Until a major update is required ...

I'd say go with TomTom. I've got tomtom mobile on my A1000 and it's fantastic. My missus bought an el cheapo sat nav device, i think it was running destinator, and it wasn't very user friendly (or accurate) at all. For example, it only has about 3 numbers on collins st in melbourne. We keyed in 550 collins st, melbourne, and it didn't know where it was! I'm sure you'll get varied opinions, but I'd suggest getting a TomTom product.

Yer I know, My friend has done it and the maps arnt that good. Id rather use my Mio C520 except it cost me a small fortune

I got one about 2 months ago, from what i can recall i think the average is about $100 annually.

Having used an iPod Touch, I won't EVER buy another mobile phone, apart from the iPhone... they all have crappy interfaces in comparison!! The iPhone/iPod Touch has got the most usable interface of any portable device I've used. Never did like any of the 6 or so Nokia phones I ever owned. I guess it all depends on how you use it.

Get a standalone GPS TomTom , screen too small on a phone & much easier to use a standalone GPS. I like to also be able to view the maps as I drive not just hear the instructions so I couldnt imagine using my phone even thou it can do it.
