Playstation 3 Hardware \ Earphones for PS3

This might be a stupid question, but is there anyway to just hook up a set of earphones to the playstation so all game sound goes through them.

This way I can sneak in some play time while the missus is sleeping

No easy way mate - I faced the same problem. PS3 does not have an analogue plug-in required for headphones to be connected directly into it. So what's needed is a DAC (Digital-Analogue-Converter) which can get very pricey. I had to buy a special set of headphones that came with a DAC at a fairly good price so then I connect my digital out from PS3 to the DAC to which headphones hook up to.

You can of course buy the DAC separately and plug in any set of headphones you like but it adds to the cost.

This is the only way to get the better quality sound directly from your PS3 to a set of headphones.

IF however you just want sound - and don't care about the best quality of it - you can always plug a set of headphones into your TV if it has a headphone jack OR if you're using an A/V Receiver then you should be able to plug you headphones directly to that.

I have my PS3 as a stand-alone without any home theatre set up and had to go the DAC and headphone solution as I didn't want to plug my headphones into the tv for crappy sound.

To tell you the truth, I didn't even think to check for plugs on my TV, I wasn't sure if you could get a USB one which does what I want.

I suppose I will just put up with crappy sound. At this point low quality sound is probably better than not playing at all.

No it doesn't at the moment, but I will definately keep that in mind when I finally get a decent set up
