It's official: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that the already-delayed PlayStation 3 console will launch with different hardware that will support "a broad range of original PlayStation titles and a limited range of PlayStation 2 titles." Once the PS3 is finally released in those territories, customers there will have been waiting longer to pay a higher sticker price for what is essentially less-powerful, less-flexible hardware. Then again, is backward compatibility really all that important to begin with? What does this mean for Sony, for prospective PS3 buyers, and for the future in general? Nope, there just taken out the Emotion Chip... The kept the sound processing hardware, but video will be done through a combination of hardware and software. Next Update will rumourably be able to upscale PS2 games to 720p/i... Which will be awesome for all of you who have an HD capable TV.

I went shopping last weekend and saw a good one: Samsung 40" (small yes, but 1080p, HDMI inputs... and very clean screen, but no in-built tuner - I finid the in-built ones are not as good as the external ones) for $1899 and when I went in yesterday to the same shop it was for $3899... so if you're in the market - i'd suggest HOLD OUT... damn people trying to rip us off with the onset of the PS3 release... *grumble grumble*
