Hi there, I just read an old post that you are a recruiting officer for the army.

Was wondering if you can help me out with a bit of info.

I am a single mother or two girls 3 and 6 and am 39 going on 40. I have always been in great shape, but not always fit. What is the opinion of an old girl like me joining not only with instructors but also peers.

Also, my biggest hurdle mentally will be be away from my kids for the 28 days, not only that my family have banded together to afford me no support in my decision.

I guess what i am asking is, what difference does having no emotional family support make?

Hey sorry for the late reply. As a self called 'old girl' (I know females too well to call you it straight out) there are usually two ways the instructors look at the recruit. One in a good way when you try to help out other people and are always putting in and the other bad way when you try to tell everybody what to do and use your age as an excuse to lag behind the rest. From your comments I would say you fall in to the first group which is good and personally I have had a 54 yo complete the 80 day course with no dramas. Usually with peers as long as you help them out they always seem to get on well with each other. As you are all in the same boat most recuits get on real well together.
Family Support does sound like a wee bit of an issue. The main thing for you would be to have a place for your kids to stay for the 28 days that you can fully 100% trust with no issues. With even the smallest thing playing on your mind at Kapooka it can turn into a massive issue. You will miss your kids but this is common and most people will do that on the course so you will once again need to fall back on your peer group there.
Family support is good to have but many can make it through without it. In the end in my experience most of the people that did not have family support prove their family wrong at the end of the course at the march-out and usually their family opinion has turned around.
As you have stated about the 28 day course I am assuming that you are lo
