Street Fighter IV
Australian Release Date - 20th of February, 2009
February looks set to be a massive month for gamers, with Street Fighter IV joining a long list of highly anticipated titles hitting shelves throughout the month.
The screens look great, the footage looks even better and early reports from the arcade version is that it's everything we've expected and more!
Killzone 2
Australian Release Date - 26th of February, 2009
If any game highlighted how dedicated the PS3 fanbase is, it's Killzone 2. Although the first was a decent FPS at best, the PS3 fanbase has gone wild with Killzone 2 fever as we near its release date.
Reports state that it's substantially better than the original, so that's why we've included it in our list of titles to be excited for in 2009. We really hope it's everything it's been hyped up to be. We're confident!
Bionic Commando
Australian Release Date - 1st of February, 2009
Capcom have teased us with an upgraded version of the original with Bionic Commando Rearmed on XBLA and PSN and early reports are that the all-new, 3D adventure, Bionic Commando is an adventure of epic proportions.
We're looking forward to it because early previews are promising and gameplay videos have shown some exceptionally good environments and gameplay elements. We're excited!
The Godfather Part II
Australian Release Date - 1st of February, 2009 (TBC)
After a solid outing with the first, The Godfather Part II looks set to expand on the original and offer us an all new experience within the Corleone family. Can the game offer something we can't refuse, or will it crash and burn? We think it's a title to look out for in 2009!
Resident Evil 5
Australian Release Date - 13th of March, 2009
When Resident Evil 4 was released on the Gamecube, gamers around the world got a taste of an all new direction for a franchise that had gone somewhat stale over the past few iterations. Capcom delivered one of the best games of the decade (and one of the best of all time) with a title that scared us, dragged us in and left us screaming for more.
We get more with an all-new adventure with Resident Evil 5, which looks set to expand on the brilliance of RE4 and provide us with one of the most amazing gaming experiences this generation!
DC Universe Online
Australian Release Date - 1st of March, 2009 (TBC)
One of the most anticipated MMO titles for 2009 is DC Universe Online, a PS3 exclusive title that looks to take full advantage of the PS3 hardware and online capabilities.
Can this prove once and for all that consoles are a good platform for MMO titles, or will it fail like so many others? We can't wait to find out!
Ghostbusters
Australian Release Date - 15th of June, 2009 (TBC)
When Activision dumped Ghostbusters from its Q4 release list, children of the 80s everywhere feared for the future of one of the most anticipated licensed games of 2009.
Thankfully, the good people at Atari picked it up and is now set for release in conjunction with the original Ghostbusters' 25th Anniversary. We can't wait to lay the smackdown on some ghouly ghouls!
Infamous
Australian Release Date - 1st of June, 2009
Not a great deal is known about this title, but the premises is highly attractive. Set in a third-person, sandbox world, inFamous incorporates elements from MMO City of Heroes and allows you to choose between hero or villian that will effect the outcome of the game.
We're incredibly excited for this one!
Prototype
Australian Release Date - 31st of July, 2009
Prototype is an upcoming sandbox-style action game in development by Radical Entertainment and based on an original IP developed in-house. On the Prototype website a mysterious timer counts down to January 8th 2009. We don't know what it means, but we're looking forward to it!
Tekken 6
Australian Release Date - 15th of September, 2009
Tekken fans are anticipated yet another addition to the 3D fighter, which looks set to be the best in the series yet! 2009 is going to be an amazing year for fighting fans, and Tekken 6 is one of the reasons why.
Heavy Rain
Australian Release Date - 1st of November, 2009
Director David Cage noted that Heavy Rain "will be a very dark film noir thriller with mature themes". That is enough to keep us intrigued. Not much else is known about this title besides some of the games development specs and gameplay elements. It looks set to be this generations Killer7 and that is enough to make us excited for it.
Final Fantasy XIII
Australian Release Date - 31st of December, 2009 (TBC)
So it's still a far way off, but Final Fantasy fans still have Final Fantasy XIII high on their radars of games to look out for in 2009. So do we!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Australian Release Date - TBA
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will go down as one of the greatest shooters of all time. It had an amazing multiplayer experience and a surprisingly good single-player mode, with brilliant gameplay and amazing visuals.
Call of Duty: World at War expanded on the gameplay slightly but traveled back to the World War-era, but now announcement has come that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is in development and set for release in 2009. We can't wait!
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Australian Release Date - 31st of January, 2009 (TBC)
Red Faction on the Playstation 2, although visually unimpressive, was a fantastic FPS that provided gamers with a great launch title experience similar to the hype surrounding Resistance.
The sequel wasn't quite as good but was still an exceptionally good FPS experience and with Red Faction: Guerrilla set to hit the PS3 in early 2009, we're hoping for a re-emergence of a forgotten FPS powerhouse...although this latest edition will be in third-person.
God of War III
Australian Release Date - 11th of December, 2009 (TBC)
We don't know much about God of War III, but we do know one things: it's going to kick major ass! The first two were the epitome of PS2 gaming and still go down as two of the greatest adventure and action games of all time.
Early reports from industry insiders is that early development levels are breathtakingly beautiful and that the game is like nothing we've ever seen before. It's not confirmed for 2009, but here's hoping we see it sooner rather than later!
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Australian Release Date - TBA
Although it hasn't been officially confirmed for 2009, industry reports suggest that we might see it in Q4 2009. With Uncharted: Drake's Fortune being such an amazing success, we know that if Uncharted 2 sees the light of day this year, it'll be one of the biggest titles to hit the PS3 in 2009.
Brutal Legend
Australian Release Date - TBA
Brutal Legend is an action-adventure title and is the second game from Double Fine Productions, following the critically-acclaimed Psychonauts. That's enough to keep us excited for this upcoming title, even though its release date is only known to be Q3 2009.
