News \ Smaller and cheaper Blu-Ray Laser.

Sony and Nichia have worked together in refining the Blu-Ray laser the results are a smaller and cheaper alternative to the original laser, so far these new Blu-Ray lasers will be used in Sony’s 9.5mm laptop drives which should be available some time this year, There’s no news yet if Sony will utilize them in the PS3, but if they do decide to, it will aid in reducing production costs even though Sony have denied any further price drops for the PS3. Another interesting feature of the new Blu-Ray laser is its ability to handle disks with organic dye in the recording layers which can be mass produced from existing DVD production lines.

Yeah that had me a little worried as well, let's hope they find a way around it if they do decide to go in that direction.
