Grand Theft Auto IV - 9/10
The Grand Theft Auto series would arguebly be one of the greatest series ever to enter the gaming world. Providing us gamers with, stunning story lines, tremendous free-roaming. characterinteraction and that wonderful life-like feeling. With the hype and expectations high for Grand Theft Auto 4, Rockstar had a huge task sitting on top of their shoulder and they provided to all our needs, and much, much more. Even if you were never into the GTA series, this is the chance to begin and experience where the gaming industry are at, you wouldnt want to be missing out on this Grand Theft Auto 4 would have to be the greatest installment seen on the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 so far in this year.
You are in possession of the Russia immigarnt Niko Bellic who hopes to live the "good life" in Liberty City. His mind filled with thoughs of loads of money, sports cars, mansions, and gorgeous women. However, Niko's cousin Roman hasn't been completey honest about how great the "land of opportunity" America is. Niko must work his way to the top and live the life he dreamed of upon his arrival.
The game has a much, much greater life-like feeling from the acting of cars to the way of Niko's movement. Its not all the big things that make Grand Theft Auto 4 so good, it is all the millions of little features you are able to experience that give the game a more photo-realistic feeling. Surroundings are much more interactive, pedestrians and much more respondent then they were in previous GTA's. There is more of buildings of all diferent varietys to enter and browse - for example clothes stores are move interactive their is a wider range of clothing and you actually have to walk up to the persific clothing you want to see how it looks, instead of just going to a change room and selecting the clothes you want from a menu. The city itself may no be as big as GTA San Andreas, yet had much more features and things to do.
A surperb feature added to GTA4 is the cell phone, which acts like you menu system. With the ability to phone people up, recieve messages, play online and organise your day. Your phone can ring at anytime, anywhere unexpectably, which could be about missions that are one-off chances of doing and other times from a friend who may want to hang-out. You have a choice to accept or reject these missions and get-togethers. You are able to ring up various people yourself and ask if they want to hang-out, you are able to go bowling, play pool, out to eat, to stand up comedians and even to your local strip club. You can ring up services like taxi's, the police, the paramedics and the fire department.
The police wanted system has been worked on. There is still the 6 star wanted meter, but there is now a police search parameter, the more wanted level stars you have the larger the search parameter will be. There are police all scattered around the search area looking to find you, your goal is to get out of the search parameter as quick as you can and then keep a low profile of yourself.
Each car now contains a fitted in GPS system which shows you the map surrounding where you are. If you are engaged in a mission the GPS system will indicate to you where to go, all you need to do is follow their path they have marked out using yellow for the street or path you must drive on.
Grand Theft Auto 4 also allows for the SIXAXIS option to be used. Moving Niko, reloading and driving bikes, helicopters and boats can all be SIXAXIS control. There is a tutorial that can be found in the cell phone for the SIXAXIS to show how to use it.
Grand Theft Auto 4 now features online multiplayer mode, which allows you and your friends to take part in a number of events and matches. You and your friends are able to use the entire city in online mode, there are no limits on what you can do. You can free roam the city, play different types of deathmatches, preform various jobs and tasks, and take part in races.
Overall this would have to be by far the greatest edition to the Grand Theft Auto series. Nearly every aspect has been improved dramatically for the better. The gameplay is fenominal, the graphics are surperb and it is just one of those games that seems it could last for a life time. It was everything you expected it to be and even more then you could imagine. If you are yet to own a copy of this magnific masterpiece (Im looking at you Luke) then i not sure why you are still here reading this review, leave now, grab your cash, and strive towards you nearest gaming store. Trust me this is not something that you can let pass by. Rockstar have truely created a masterpiece, it is so far the greatest game of Next Generation consoles and one of the best of all time.
