SCE UK confirms extra in-game XMB functionality will arrive in a matter of months
SCE UK boss Ray Maguire has revealed that PS3’s forthcoming firmware update will introduce new features to the cross media bar.
As he thanked SCE UK’s trade partners for reaching one million UK PS3 sales, he added: “Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios.

the ingame xmb ( cross media bar ) allows the user to pause a game and play music or talk to friends and stuff without closing the game. in other words you can turn off the ingame music and play your own stuff, this feature was the downside of the ps3 but now since we are getting it were now pwning the xbox360

waiting, waiting...! Better late than never, though in-game XMB will be of only limited use to me as I probably only game 10% of the time. Internet and movies are what I use my PS3 for. Mind you, with AoT, HAZE, MGS4 et al out soon things are likely to change.
