PS3 IR to Bluetooth Convertor

A manufactured standalone IR to Bluetooth is now available from IR2BT.

This allows standard universal remotes to be used with your PS3 with full functionality. The IR/USB dongle type solutions only gave basic controller functionality, not full Sony Bluetooth remote capabilities (eg, no eject).

The unit will either power off a USB port or 2xAA batteries.

Another handmade unit is also available from Schmartz (and has been for a while) but is a bit less refined.

The cost of these solutions are currently pretty high (way more expensive than the actual Sony Bluetooth remote) but with quantity and competition these would be expected to come down in price.

They really are for the people with a high end universal remote like a Harmony though at this stage. If they were about $20 shipped more people woud grab them I reckon. I can live without it. The only universal remotes I have are the Sony and Onkyo ones that came with components like my Amp and DVD player and TV. A good programmable one would definitely be useful, but I can live without it.

I do know a person that wouldn't buy a PS3 due to the lack of IR though... So for people in his situation, it is good news.

Yeah Nice work Mobe, I've got a Harmony remote but Ican't justify paying more to make PS3 compatible when I'm fine using the Hand controler. As you were saying if the price comes down it may more attractive, I'll keep my eyes open for it though

Theres an ozy dealer. I bought a RE-BL IR to Bluetooth converter from them only coz there cheaper than the Schmartz ps3IR-1000. But they also sell the cheaper ps3IR-500.
