Sony responds to threats from Activision

Activision head honcho Bobby Kotick has been doing some saber rattling over at the giant publisher, saying that they may need to "stop supporting Sony" come 2010 or 2011. The folks at Playstation, though, don't seem fazed.

"PlayStation has tremendous momentum coming out of E3, and we are seeing positive growth with more than 350 titles slated to hit across all our platforms, including many anticipated games from our publishing partners," said Playstation spokesman Patrick Seybold. "We enjoy healthy business relationships with and greatly value our publishing partners and are working closely with them to deliver the best entertainment experience."

Indeed Sony announced an impressive line-up of first and third-party PS3 and PSP titles at their annual retailer meet-up Destination Playstation and then spent a bulk of their E3 press conference whipping through triple-A title after triple-A title.

As interesting as it is to read about some publishing exec making vague threats, I'd be much more interested to learn what really prompted this. Perhaps we should be reading more into Kotick's comments in the same article about the royalties that Activision is having to pay out to Sony.

If sony dropped them and made heaps of jrpg that would well make up for it as all of activisions games sell much better on 360 anyways.

I for one, like games such as Guitar Hero, Call of Duty and the upcoming DJ Hero.

The only good thing about them all is trophies.

Sony should not submit too Activisions demands seriously they act like there the biggest thing ever.

I can just get every cod on 360 for free so no biggy here.

Activision are bluffing.. they're acting like they're bigger than what they really are. They've got all of 2 good franchises under their belt and the rest is shovelware or on PC.

Dude, wtf!?

Could you imagine if SONY didnt have any more future COD's or Guitar Heroes?

It would be RIP! thats what! COD and GH sell like frikken hot cakes. If SONY let activision go out of arrogance and not caring because of their E3 performance then they can go and F themselves.

But i doubt that will happen. Fingers, toes and ball sac crossed.

Activision is not the biggest third party company in the world...

Activision are the ones being arrogant.

Infinite ward would not be happy about activision dropping sony so umm yeh same with harmonix.

Activision would risk losing them as well right? Haha there only 2 decent franchises other then that Activision is a piece of ****.

Ps2 did just fine without activision.

Yeah dude, RIP for sony considering how well COD is doing these days. COD4 is THE most talked about online PS3 game. PS3 without COD would hurt.

And cmon be frikken serious, PS2 did just fine without them? Yeah because back then they had so many exclusives they hardly needed it, plus COD wasnt as big back then because online gameplay wasnt all the rage.

Earth to mickey!!! Online is the future now, and COD is one of the biggest games to boast it.

Like i said so many times im the only aussie who thinks Fps are boring mainly because no story = **** game.

You're not the only person. A good friend of mine who came over to my place today (for SF4) is a big fan of JRPGs, just like yourself.

But he doesn't keep arguing FPS games are ****. He just admits it's not his kind of game .... and let's others enjoy it if they want.

Hmm, pretty poor comments on that one Mickey.. Last time i checked those are the two biggest tickets for the PS3. Even down to people at work who don't play games, somehow end up playing COD4 religiously.

Just because something doesn't have a story doesn't make it ****. Take real life sport, no story, or action movies- no story....

and remember, Activision has been around for probably longer than you've been playing video games....

the key word is "MIGHT", it aint going to happen, and who is Activision to tell Sony how to market their product. So from now on Call of duty, and GH will only be on 360 and wii...LOL Hilarious!
Good luck Activision, Modern Warfare 2 will be my last game ill buy off them.

My 1st CoD game I played online was Call of Duty back in 2003 on PC, back then it was unpopular but then it got popular every year untill CoD4 came out and it was the must play game. Ive seen games come and go like for example Tenchu and Medal of Honour series, both were good back then now they went downhill. I don't if the CoD series will be following this path of glory b4 the series loses its flame. I've seen CoD games since it was born in 2003 and im going to see it die soon.

What makes this even funnier is the fact how popular the call of duty franchise is on the ps3... We get new off the net saying " call of duty waw dlc hits 1 million download mark", so how much was from the psn store?? This is seriously a joke... I think Activision need a new CEO *hint hint*

What a dickhead! I ****ing hate people who pirate games its what is ruining the PC market. If Sony lose Activision then bye bye PS3. Guitar Hero, Modern Warfare, Call Of Duty, Lucasarts titles, ID software titles, Bizarre Creation titles its just too much to lose. Sony in my mind dont have a clue.

Sony have seriously messed up this generation. The PS3 was made too expensive including wifi, bluray, backwards compatibility, memory card readers etc they have tried to lower the costs by removing the memory card readers and backwards compatibility but now no ps2 games. Bluray in my opinion wasn't needed this gen DVD and DLC is more than enough. The lack of graphics memory has really ****ed with developers having to now push the awkward cell processor for more power. The ps2 was a success because it was cheap and simple why didnt they keep with this? Plus losing all the exclusive titles. Losing Activision would hurt, no Modern Warfare, no Guitar Hero, no Blur, no Rage to name a few. If Sony dont lower the damn price and sort themselves out (like pulling their fingers out of their asses) then we could be looking at the next Dreamcast.
