Blu-ray \ Bluray On 360: Not Gonna Happen...

Hate to say I told you so, but... well... I told you so. Lohl, I just wanted to clarify this with all the people that think Bluray is "planned" for Xbox 360. Here's an interesting quote from the guy who wrote the article...

"The HD-DVD player for the 360 wasn't created to sell the system. It was created to sell the format, and if for some reason the format no longer becomes viable, you simply stop selling. The 360 will do just fine without it"

It's very true, and it says a lot... Bluray will pretty much make or break the PS3, because it was developed by Sony, and it's the consoles main selling point. HD-DVD on the other hand, that was developed by Toshiba, Microsoft put no money into it other than supporting it and making it a peripheral for the Xbox... anyway, I hope this clears a few things up

WiiMan says:

Oh well, I guess we will have it and you won't, unless you buy a PS3 of course...

Anyway, I still believe Blu ray will win.

iddqd says:

I couldn't care less, don't particularly want either of them. Why should I pay $1000 for something I'm not going to use? And who says if I do want Bluray eventually, I won't just buy a standalone player in a year or so when they're $200? That's the logic that most of you guys choose not to understand... HD-DVD doesn't matter at all for the 360.

Logic? here we go again.. this guy gets cut if you go onto myredlight360 but yet he always checks out whats happening here! Go figure!

Thought you had agreed that it ends up cheaper with the ps3?

Changed ya mind again? lol

iddqd not all of us buy a ps3 JUST for blu ray (well i didn't anyway), im like u in that regard, i couldn't care less of either hd dvd or blu ray, but it is a great feature to have nonetheless, i think most people know what i mainly bought my ps3 for cough heavenly sword cough.........oh and DEFINITELY uncharted drakes fortune.

WiiMan says:

I've got an HD projector on a 100" screen and a 7.1 surround system so I wanted blu ray because it puts all of my components to good use.

Even if the PS3 hadn't come out with a Blu ray drive I probably would have bought a standalone player anyway, and I might still do once the standalones start to get better than the PS3 as they definately will, like standalone dvd players are better than the PS2 etc.

And just because MS declare that they don't want it now doesn't mean they won't backflip later like they did with HDMI & larger hard drives.

If Blu ray does win the so-called format war as I believe it will (beacause I believe it is superior to HD-DVD) I dont think MS will still refuse to have a Blu ray addon as that would be throwing away the potential profits they could make from selling it. And we all know MS will do anything to make a profit.

i have no doubt that MS will make BD addons if blu ray wins the format wars. I also believe that Blu Ray is a supperior format. But right now its just too expensive for the consumer. Who will win will depend on install base and that depends on pricing.

Melad136 says:

i dont think that bluray will make it onto the xbox because microsoft have already made a choice to go with hd-dvd and it would be a bad financial choice to do so

bluray in my opinion will win the format wars because hd-dvd is just dvd in high definition to my memory but bluray is a totally new format with higher capabilities

and i didnt buy my ps3 just for the bluray either i bought it for the best value for money, its built in wifi and the future games that are coming are to die for like devil may cry 4 and ninja gaide sigma (fav gam of all time)

WiiMan says:

Blu ray & HD-DVD are pretty much equal in video & audio capablilities at the moment.

The main difference between Blu ray & HD-DVD is the layer size, Bluray holds 25GB per layer against HD-DVDs 15GB.

Blu ray discs also have a super-hard coating so they are very hard to scratch and don't get finger prints & dust on them.

longarms says:

dose any one also take into account that blu ray is also used for games I think that’s the main advantage of the format just like with the ps2 having a dvd drive it could play dvd's but the best thing was allowing more space for game data it is a game console after all . i think this is the most valid reason for having a higher capacity drive as standard.

What about the fact that both the formats will be dead in a few years? Internet is getting faster, flash memory and hard drives are getting bigger... there will be no use for optical media, no matter what the capacity...

Bear101 says:

The best thing about blue ray is that we'd be able to store so much info on them! photos albums movies etc! sooooo goood!

05/18/2007 Vic

WiiMan says:

Well that's an obvious advantage to me, but there are plenty of people that will tell you the capacity of a DVD9 is all that is needed for the this gen of games.

Yeah but Iddqd not everyone around the world has superfast internet like the US, Korea & Japan etc.

I mean look at ours it's pitiful, and just because it looks like it might be about to improve here doesn't mean it will everywhere else.

People will still want stuff on discs anyway, you feel more secure having something in your hand rather than something that can be erased off a metal disc or whatever it's stored on.

People still buy cds don't they?

Yep and who would trust having their loved ones photos sitting in cyberspace as opposed to a cd!?

There's already a next next gen disc in design called the Holographic Versatile Disc, it's in a research stage holding up to 3.9 terrabytes.

I bet u use a Crt..I doubt if a bluray player will be that cheap ina 1yr as its taken at least 5yrs(as a mimimum) for dvd players to become that cheap. We understand Hd-dvd doesnt matter thats why they didnt include it and make a nasty add-on.
