Warhawk PS3 - 8/10
Warhawk for the Playstation 3 is a multiplayer only, 3rd person shooter. Currently available on the Playstation store and on the 20th of September for Blu-ray Disc and headset, Warhawk provides players with the option to control aircrafts, tanks, jeeps, cannons and turrets.
Players have the option to choose between Eucadian and Chernovan forces. You may customize your character and aircraft to distinguish yourself from others online. There is a ranking system available in Warhawk based on your in-game points on ranked matches only. The higher your rank, the more you can customize your character.
Warhawk may be played with up to 4 people online via split-screen. There are also four game modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Zone. Along with 5 rather large maps: Archipelago, Badlands, Destroyed Capitol, Island Outpost and Eucadia.

Vehicles:
Both the Eucadian and Chernovan forces have 3 types of vehicles each.
Eucadian Forces:
- Warhawk
- 4 x 4
- Tank
Chernovan Forces:
- Nemesis
- 4 x 4

2 players may enter an aircraft at one time, however only one may fly and control every aspect of either the Warhawk or Nemesis.
The 4 x 4 vehicle may carry up to 3 players; a driver, passenger and a gunner. This vehicle is quick, with little armored protection. Contains a rear mounted automatic machine gun.
The Tank may hold up to 2 people, with one controlling the vehicles direction and mortar-firing cannon (which is able to blast any aircraft up above) and the other player has the ability to pop in and out of the tanks hatch to provide support with whatever weapon is at their disposal.
The 4 x 4 vehicles and Tanks for both forces are essentially the same, only difference is in their visual appearance.
Three types of Turrets are available in the game in various locations. Firstly, the Anti-Aircraft Turret, that you simply aim and shoot down aircraft with. The Homing Missile Turret has the ability to lock onto targets and the Heavy Machine Gun Turret, which is similar to the one rear mounted on the 4 x 4 vehicle.

Aircraft Weapons:
Aircrafts have an array of weapons at their disposal; Tow Missile, Chaff Dispenser, Cluster Munition, Swarm Missile, Aerial Mine, Energy Weapon, Avionics Package.
Tow Missile has to be launched whilst hovering, press L1 and guide the missile to your desired target whilst in first person mode.
Chaff Dispenser is able to get rid of anything that has locked on to you.
Cluster Munition is a bomb you drop on the ground which spreads into smaller bombs.
Swarm Missiles are able to target one or more enemies.
Aerial Mines float in the air and explode on impact when aircraft fly into them.
Energy Weapon has two modes a short range arc mode or full-charge Electro-Plasma Blast mode.
Avionics Package makes you invisible from the map and from being locked on.
Soldier Weapons:
Soldiers have Automatic Rifle, Portable Missile, Sniper Rifle, Flame Thrower, Binoculars, Grenade, Combat Blade and Service Pistol.
Automatic Rifle has longer range than Pistol and faster fire rate.
Portable Missile has a lock on function for aircraft and ground vehicles.
Sniper Rifle is able to kill in one shot and is able to kill someone in an aircraft, it has 2 zoom functions.
Flame Thrower is good at close range, with the ability to take out someone in a Turret.
Binoculars can request air-strikes in a specific location.
Grenade may be used against troops and vehicles.
Combat Blade is basically a knife for close combat kills.
The Service Pistol is your standard weapon with unlimited ammo.
Gameplay:
Warhawk has the option to either use the Playstation 3 Sixaxis controller motion sensing capabilities or the more traditional control scheme of 2 analog sticks and the D-pad. Personally I suggest using the traditional controls first and get used to flying before giving the motion sensing a go. At first you will find the default controls reversed so I suggest changing that straight away, unless you prefer it that way. Online play is fierce at first, as you try and gain experience within the game. I suggest creating a game for yourself to try out the assorted weapons and vehicles. Flying in my opinion is the most enjoyable aspect of the game, the gameplay in general offers players variety and excitement.
* Reminder: Your main enemy will be H4mmersmith, being within a kilometre of his radius will result in certain death!
Graphics:
The game supports 720p, 1080i.
Visuals will not blow you away, however they are very good. The water and terrain at times look amazing, the characters and perhaps the vehicles to some extent are not as good.
Sound:
The sound is great, enhances the game just that bit more, can’t complain.
Negatives:
-Frequent statistics and ranking problems.
-The lobby needs improvement.
Conclusion:
Overall I would recommend Warhawk to anybody who is even slightly interested. It has a great variety to keep a range of players happy with the air and ground combat options available. This title is a must for online fans as it contains plenty of intense online action, which is relatively simple to grasp and an enjoyable experience time and time again.
Gameplay: 8.5/10
Graphics: 7.5/10
Sound: 9/10
Overall: 8/10
