Some of you guys might know that I had to send my PS3 down to the Sony repair centre in Blacktown to fix the drive laser, right?

Well, I called them up today to keep track of my PS3 ... and they're saying that I'm part of an 'exchange' process.

i.e. I get someone else's PS3 that is already in the process of being fixed, which was submitted before I submitted my PS3. Someone else gets my fixed PS3 after they submit their's. It's supposed to make the process "faster".

But I'm not cool with it ... I don't want someone else's, when it might be in a worse condition, or older or something. My PS3 was only 7 months old! What happens if I get someone else's PS3 which was 11 months old (still 'just' covered by warranty)? An older PS3 could lead to other potential problems ... and who knows how they treated their PS3s ...

I'm wondering if anyone else was aware of this. Were you cool with it?

I don't think I would be. Lucky I wrote down my PS3's serial number. First thing I'm doing when my PS3's back ... is check the serial number ...

Maybe if you call them and request to have your own PS3 back, and explain what you just wrote.

Yea, I called them and told them (not being rude or anything) but I want MY PS3 back, because it's MINE.

He says he'll contact me back in about 3 days time to see what he can do/find out for me.

Even after my own PS3 is repaired, Sony isn't even going to offer any extended warranties on the repairs ... are they? =/

Yea, I remember that ... but that might be because it was a free PS3 through the BRAVIA promotion. Maybe, I dunno ...

Yea, I'm going to ask either for my PS3 fixed and returned ... or a new one with 12 months warranty again. (We all know what Sony would prefer

See, that's the thing. Max (person I talked to today) asked me if the other guy (whose name was John) explained to me that I wouldd be part of this exchange program. I replied no, because John clearly didn't. I was forced into this 'program' without my permission!

I'm awaiting that call in 3 day's time from Sony ...

It happened to me with my 360, I clearly marked on the parts of the inside chassis that is exposed through the rear with a permanent marker and a couple of small scratches and they were all gone when it was returned.

To be honest, I've just thought of an evil plan:

Buy a new PS3 for $700ish. Sell my current PS3 for $500 or something.

Cop the $200 cost ... I get a 'renewed' 12 months warranty

Might actually consider extended warranty this time ... >_>

I know there was a thread where people were talking about 3rd party PS3 fixers in Sydney and Melbourne.

Don't get too excited. See how it turns out. If they don't call within 3 days, i'd call back...then politely ask for someone in charge, and simply state your case. If need be, later down the line ---> Consumer affairs / ombudsman. But that's talking real drastic last resort stuff.

I'll have to wait for that phone call from Sony to see what's going to happen with my PS3. I have a feeling I'm going to get screwed over ...
