Burnout: Paradise City - 9/10
Criterion Games have produced many great Burnout franchises over the past couple of years. Just when you think they couldn’t get any better, they release Burnout Paradise. Burnout Paradise is a fast, furious and a very unique game. EA have made a few changes in the design and in the gameplay which makes the Burnout experience even better.
One of the changes they have made is the Free Roam feature that was missed in the last Need For Speed game, Need For Speed: Pro Street. You are free to drive anywhere in the city with it all being unlocked. You have to roughly unlock 75 cars throughout the game but your options are never limited. This picture below shows you the size of Paradise City:
Career Mode:
In your career you get a license. It starts off as a Learners License. When you win more races, it upgrades it. You are free to do any race in any order. No limits. There isn’t any type of storyline at all. The better Class your license is the better cars you get.
Mode Types
Race Mode:
In the race mode, you have to race from Point A to Point B before the other cars do. The street signs at the top let you know when to make a turn. As for shortcuts, you have to discover them for yourself.
Road Rage:
In Road Rage you have to take out a certain amount of cars before the time runs out. The way you can take out people is by slamming them into walls, cars, vans, trucks, poles and more, but in doing that you have to be careful not to crash in the process. You can go over the required amount of Take Downs. The more Take Downs the better.
Burning Lap:
In Burning Lap you have a certain car you have to use. You are only allowed to compete in that car, you don’t get to choose. Just like in Race you have to get from Point A to Point B in a certain time limit but you are not racing anyone. If you win a Burning Route you win a car.
Marked Man:
Marked Man is one of the hardest but coolest events on the game. You also have to go from Point A to Point B but there is no time limit. While you are trying to get there, Black Cars will try and take you out. You cannot take down these cars you just have to avoid them.
Stunt Runs:
Lastly there is the Stunt Run were you are given a score you have to beat by doing stunts like jumps, ramps, drifts and flatspins.
Online:
In my opinion online is the best feature of this game. You and seven other friends can race in customize races were you can drop a number of checkpoints in. You can even save them for later so you don’t have to put them in again. Free- burn challenges are fun, little games that are as simple as all players doing a barrel roll to two players crashing in mid-air. There are around 300+ of these little challenges.
Car List:
There are over 75 cars that are available to unlock throughout the game. The way you unlock them is very good. You win them when your license upgrades. Also you can take out certain cars roaming through the streets. That then delivers the car to the Junk Yard.

Stunts:
There are heaps of cool stunts that you can perform on this game. These include barrel rolls were you go off a split ramp which makes you flip around. These can be quite hard when it comes to landing. There is also flat-spins were you hit the brakes and spin around with the analog sticks which makes you spin around when you go off a jump. The coolest one is E- Brake. All you have to do is hold the square button and control it with the analog stick when you’re going around corners. Your front wheels don’t move but your back wheels go spinning around. There are also the other stunts that were in the previous Burnout Games.
Dissapointment:
The very disappointing and frustrating thing in this game was that they didn’t include Restart Race or Quit Race. That means you have to finish the race and drive all the way back to the race start again. This can be very frustrating and takes a long time. Also the GPS system isn’t that good.
Conclusion:
Overall this is been the best Burnout experience ever! The sound is very good at the graphics are very crisp. I recommend this game to car fans especially those who like American Muscles. Burnout has it negatives and its positives. Criterion Games could have done a bit work.

luke man you can quit a race. If you just stop the car moving for 4 seconds the race ends and you can go do another event. and there is allways a new even close to you.
