Call Of Duty World At War - 8/10
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released on November 7th 2007 and won numerous Game of the Year awards. Modern Warfare lead the way for War games and in general the First Person Shooter genre to this very date. With it's action packed online and a community of gamers that have stayed with this game to the very end it was a Genre defining classic.
No you are not reading a review for Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare you are reading a review for World at War. The reason I bought up MW was for the fact that World At War is a Modern Warfare "Skin" in my opinion a game that uses the same game engine, same graphics engine and pretty much is a Modern Warfare knockoff.
Now that I got that out of the way here we go.
World at War is the fifth entry in the ever popular Call of Duty series which started back on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. World at War undertook the reigns for this outing and have not looked back to the Modern Era of War but instead to a gutsy effort and jumped back in time where the guns where Bolt Action and Machine Guns were big.
You play one campaign but has two different stories. First story that starts off is the American assault in the Pacific against the Japanese and on the other side you play as a Russian in their way to the hierarchy in Germany.
World At War has a good way of telling it's story whether it is all out guns blazing to tank fights to shooting down planes its all their. The cut scenes are made to show who, what, when, where, why which play before a mission/chapter in the campaign. You will hear a celebrity cameo in the campaign. Kiefer Sutherland loaned his voice for the American campaign.
Once you finish the campaign (No longer Needed via a Update) you will unlock Nazi Zombies, one of two reasons why this game has stayed at Number Two in the online charts. If the Map that comes on the disk isn't enough to satisfy your Zombie killing there are 3 other Zombie maps available via Purchase through the PSN.
Multiplayer is the key part in this game with continuous support which Modern Warfare lacked with it only receiving one map pack while World At War has received 3 and with rumors of a couple more to come. There are 65 Levels to go through with the option of Prestige which is where your rank resets to Level 1 and you get a spiffy new Badge next to your online name.
In conclusion, World At War will keep you satisfied until Modern Warfare 2 is released in November. With World At War continuing to get support and receive updates this game will continue to strive through thick and thin for the months to come.
Graphics
8.5
Like it's predecessor it did not have the most detailed Textures in a game but was still satisfying eye candy.
Sound
9.0
With 5.1 Surround sound you sure can hear and feel like shooting a World War 2 gun with the kick you would receive if you where pulling the trigger.
Re Playability
9.3
One of the most played online games at the moment and with trophy support for all you trophy whores. Enough Said.
Overall
8.0
While it has Multiplayer (Only reason I play) it does have the feeling if you have played Modern Warfare that you are just playing a knock off.
