Have you felt the side of you PS3 after having it on for 5+ hours?

It's warped the plastic on the side of my tv. It gets extremely hot!

i dont need 1 but im going to buy 1 enyways becouse i dont like my items over heating and i have my own games room with huge windows, but still worrying when i put my hand on the side of my ps3 and its hot air is melting the side of my game cases..

and i have a job so 20-30 buks isnt going to hurt:)

My PS3 doesn't get that hot but it's better to be safe than sorry.
When looking for a cooling fan for the PS3 I've noticed that it plugs directly into the USB port, my question is how will this work with 40GB model as there are 2 less USB ports in a different position.

The best fan to get is one that comes from the back. I have one and it sucks the air out to the back intead of pushing it through the PS3.
Just a warning to you all, my friend's PS3 crapped itself over Xmas. The hard drive failed on him. Apparently the drive was making a winding noise then crapped itself. The worst thing is that it takes 2-3 weeks to get another one and all his saved games are gone.

I have one its crap and will most probably damage the USB socket over time. The NYKO unit that plugs in at the back is just as bad, they melt the ac power sockets.

I was cosidering getting one for my 360, however the 360 intercooler fan thingy voids the warranty apparently, so this one may do the same. I have no heating issue with my PS3 so i will go without

If this was a required thing with sony being worried about over heating issues, they wouldve just built one in or on the unit, its just a gimmick. Adds more noise and bulk to your sysytem and I have also heard these only fit the 60gig versions, not sure as to why just thought id point it out...

don't bother!! I tried one & it made my unit overheat just watching a dvd. the internal fans are variable speed & they went nuts. have tried it a few times in case it was a one off thing but it happened every time. have since taken it off & haven't had a drama!

you dont need the fans,, but i got em anyways,, front, back and side,, yeah theres noise, who cares when ya got ya sound system blarin', the front fan has a lil lcd telling you the temp. gimmicky they maybe,, havent had problem with em.
