PS3 News \ Killzone 2 only uses 60% of PS3's Power
In IGN's latest "Play Beyond" podcast, Jeff Haynes stated that even during the heaviest workloads, Killzone 2 uses only 60 per cent of the SPU's.
"It's incredible to see huge levels and see the deferred rendering and note that on all the SPU’s, even on the heaviest load were coming up to about 60%," Haynes said. "They weren't coming close to maxing out. .They had about 40% of space before they started tripping or saw slow down on some of the processes."
Aswell as this, Haynes also stated that the killzone 2 preview codes distributed are in the alpha build of Killzone 2, in which the latest beta version has optimised cut scenes, glitches and load times

No it doesn't, Crysis blows it away on a powerful rig. What planet are you on? In 1080p and running at 60fps it is far smoother, more detailed... Killzone2 as ive said is dark and bland looking and the character models don't look that great plus do you notice the slight blur to everything in game? plus the game has a chunky look to it thats probably the 720p running on my 1080p tv though. Its also amazing that all people talk about is the graphics i take it the plot is bad and the gameplay is linear then? It doesn't help i hated Killzone 1 neither...

And yes....crysis even though it's a year old game and even Far Cry 2 on the pc look a lot better than Killzone 2.

I play Crysis and Crysis Warhead maxed out on 1080p reaching 60fps and both are far superior to Killzone 2 i think your lying there... and Longarms im only hung up on what i say because before PS3 launched Sony said the cell was capable of native 1080p games running at close to 120fps which is proving to be BS. 30fps is noticebly slow for a first person shooter and i hate 720p even if it was upscaled to 1080p id be happy. Plus it is hard to believe after all Sony said that this game uses 60% power (not that great character models, fairly dark most of the time etc) it might be a good game im not denying that just nothing special graphically
its only been 2 years for the ps3, it will take a while before you see full advantage of the ps3

very true, but then again crysis had crap coding. meaning if it had been fully optimised it could have run at a lot lower spec

i was looking for clarification to the statement: "They had about 40% of space before they started tripping or saw slow down on some of the processes.""
which i interpreted as, the cell processor can handle 60%, before slowing down or 'tripping'

My friend was playing the beta and i could not stop watching it. The animations were just incredible. Can't wait to get involved come Feb 27th.

why are you so hung up on that? can't you just accept the fact that most games are going to run at 720p and judge them on how they actually look when you play them. Rather than what resolution they run at.

Hmmm dunno bout that. I think it will be a sony devolpment studio that first bring out the true power of the PS3, because they will be the ones who know how to bring out the best of it through the PS3 language.
