PS3 News \ Free Radical Close Shop

It is being reported across several gaming sites that Timesplitter creators Free Radical have closed up shop just before Christmas. The locks have been changed and they aren't answering their phones, and employees have been left in the dark as to what is exactly the cause of this shocking move.

Timesplitters 4 was due for release in 2009, what would seem to be a saving grace after the critical and commercial flop that was Haze in 2008. With the studios disbanding though, it seems that Timesplitters 4 won't be seeing the light of day.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 has been picked up by Rebellion, the developers who worked on the PSP version of Battlefront.

It is a sad day for the fans of Free Radical

RARE had a much bigger impact on gaming then some people realize, they were cranking out excellent exclusives and ports for their arcade games back on the NES and original Game Boy.

The founders of Rare were more responsible for the excellent N64 titles (Chris and Tim Stamper) then the ex rare employees that formed free radical. The lack of quality control on Haze is the proof of that.

Isn't factor 5 close to going under too (lair's developers), seems like there's a link between making a crappy ps3 exclusive and going bankrupt. Are you hearing this future ps3 exclusive developers??

Shouldn't of made Haze a PS3 exclusive, maybe if it had been made first for 360 (easier for them to develop) then ported to PS3 it could of been a better game... plus made more money. Maybe they shouldn't of left Rare all that time ago? Pefect Dark Zero might of been better... it's such a shame i cant believe it really, no more Timesplitter's!!

Free Radical was a studio formed by former RARE employees.

Its a dam shame to see them go, If Haze hadn’t been so bad it probably would have sold a lot better and keep the company afloat
