Capcom Defends Charging for Resident Evil 5 "e;Versus"e; DLC

Not surprisingly Capcom's recently announced "Versus" DLC for Resident Evil 5 has outraged gamers. Why you ask? Because we're being ripped off! Just a day after the game was released Capcom announced DLC which many feel should have been included in the game.

While releasing the multiplayer component of a game as DLC is quite a cunning ploy by Capcom financially, it's not going to win them any fans. They've been quick to defend themselves, insisting that the (approx) $6 update is necessary. They claim the extra cost is to cover the new features that go "above and beyond the initial scope" of the retail game, as well as bandwidth costs and the coin involved in implementing online multiplayer.

Capcom ensure us that the Versus DLC which will enable 4-player co-op and competitive online player isn't an unlock patch for content already included on the disc. How are you feeling about this? Happy to pay for the extra content to be released just a few weeks after the game? Or ripped off?

Unless they only charge under $5 for this, I don't think I'll bother with it. But no matter what price they use, it's still a rip-off because it's such a measly update not worthy of my wallet! (prime example of a great update is Burnout Paradise Bike's - for FREE! fcol)

Why don't Capcom spend more time getting their servers to work in all their online games properly. We get shocking connection to non-PSN friends for all SF games and can still get bad ones for PSN friends. They need to harness better servers before they tell us they're gonna sell us online features which will have poor conditions when versing foreign players.

ATM, Capcom is incapable at online features.

When I get RE5 I probably won't bother with Versus mode though. I'd probably just keep getting my arse kicked.

I doubt I'll bother with this, When I get around to co-op I want to play it with a mate by my side not online, and RE doesn't really seem like a competitive multiplayer thing.

I agree i got enough money in my bank account that if it was $109.95 I still buy it. its only $6 thats less than a family size pizza.

You guys realize you're setting a dangerous precedent by purchasing this dlc!

More and more publishers will release unfinished games and fleece you for every cent you're worth after release with "dlc" that unlocks content already on the disc.

Plus there is no guarantee that live/psn dlc will be transferable to the next ps or xbox, given how much sony and m$ like money it almost certain you're current dlc won't be compatible with the new consoles.

I went from buying re5 at full price to waiting till it halves in price because of this dlc, nice job capcom!

For a Japanese company they really don't give a $hit about honor do they??!!

In my opinion, almost all DLC is a rip-off. You have already forked out a hefty price for the game (usually around the $100 mark) then, usually not long after, more "features" are revealed.

You have the game so why do you miss out on parts of the game?

But it's the quality and size of the DLC that matters more. Haze has a DLC map that cost$10+...can't believe they wanna charge for a crap game in the first place.

Then we have Criterion giving us a massive Free DLC with the Motorbikes and stuff! The best free update I've ever had in a game!

the only worthwhile dlc i bought was for bioshock. now the challenge rooms aren't just a feature for the game.

I am not buying this game now.

so many people are so cheap to buy a cheap DLC without DLC it will be boring. they are charging this DLC because they had to work i bit longer n harder so just pay them. Im not complaining just ring up CAPCOM or Sony PSN why they charge DLC and they will give a good answer. I used to be u complaining about having to pay the DLC but since I found why i understand why they are charging DLC I hope every PS3 gamer understand why u have to pay.

What are you? a sony employee? Work hard? its a piece of coding, that in all probability was planned for and made at the time of the game being made. This is as bad as codemasters charging people for cheat codes. I happily pay for content that enriches the game playing experience, but paying extra for something that should have been included in the game is ridiculous.

That's alot of use of *DLC*. Eh i got MGS4 and COD4 i just got so i'll work through them before i consider Res Evil

I still think it's a rip off.

But to be honest, I am actually glad it is not in the game in the first place as I don't really like merceneries mode and I probably won't like this. If it is included in the game itself, then I will have to force myself to grind through this just to get the platinum trophy.

But it sucks for those who want this.
