Sony Patents Motion Control Device that Uses Any Objects
We saw Sony's motion Wand at E3 this year. The Motion Controller looked very similar to Nintendo's Wii Remote, although it did look more accurate due to the use of an Eye Toy like camera. It has now been revealed that Sony patented another motion control system that uses everyday items as controllers.
The patent lists a motion control device that uses a camera to map any item in your hand. In theory anything you pick up becomes the controller. This includes glasses, baseball bats and the mysterious U-shaped object in the image above.
Players must show the camera all sides of their object before it can reproduce it in the game. It sounds a lot like Microsoft’s Project Natal, but rather than using imaginary items the player actually holds what they are virtually using.
