PlayTV Dated For Australia

Sony has today announced that PlayTV will be released in Australia on November 26, 2009. It will sell for an RRP of $169.95.

PlayTV transforms your PS3 into a PVR and HD digital TV tuner. You can watch, pause, and record free-to-air TV - even while playing a PS3 game! If you're into the handheld scene a connected PSP can be used to watch TV, using the tuner, away from your PS3.

"PlayTV further extends the broad entertainment credentials of PS3," says PlayStation Australia boss Michael Ephraim, who believes it is a must have device.

"PS3 already provides the best High Definition gaming, Blu-ray Disc movie playback, VidZone music video streaming, video, photo album, web browsing and PlayStation Network content. With the introduction of PlayTV’s state of the art TV tuner and PVR functionality, PS3 continues to be the best choice for the home entertainment needs of the Australian family."

Does Anyone know if you can put your ps3 on a timer to record when its on sleep to wake up etc. thats the only reason ill get it because where i run my laptop is allready hooked up to a USB tv capture card and i get all this but when i take my laptop out and im away i cant set anything to record.

good price but what the price in the US, with the currency now maybe you could pick one up for 120 or so

If that's your question, it's a definite yes. It worked like that with the PlayTV I imported from the UK.

Yeah took long enough. I'll probably give it a miss as I have a TiVo now and also use TVNZB.com. If I consider upgrading the HD in the PS I might just have to get it though, because I'm addicted to PS3 peripherals.

Will JB Hi-Fi accept pre-orders for PlayTV, even though their website doesn't list it, or will I have to go to my local EB Games to pre-order it.

Its said that if you own PlayTV you will be able to watch TV on your PSP. Does that mean you can watch it through USB or only stream it through remote play?

DON'T import one. I did. I sort of worked in Sydney except for SBS, but wouldn't work at all out in country areas - can't remember reason something to with UHF and VHF so I think the hardware will have been modified for here not just the software. It wasn't a signal problem the signal as my HD Tivo works beautifully and I can see the transmitter masts from my house in Bellingen.
By the way I sold the one I imported from the UK for double what I paid for it!!

I have read that Hi-Def recordings CANNOT be put to disc in that quality, instead it will be 'downgraded' to Standard Quality- even with a Blu-ray recorder. Copyright issues aside it makes the recording pointless if you can't make a copy of it.

Nah, just needed a firmware update mate. They have confirmed its the same hardware as UK's.

Yes, it isn't perfect but I still recon it will be handy to have.

No. It can record TV while playing a game though which is pretty cool

I'm pretty keen to get one of these (even if i just pay the inflated price) so can somebody please do me a favour and please test how PlayTV works whilst folding (using the Life with PlayStation) channel? I fold 24/7 and would like to know if i can setup recordings in the the PlayTV program, switch to folding and it'll then just background record the programs whilst still folding? Quality of the resultant recordings? HD? And from what i've read, you can only record one channel at a time.. is that true? coz having the real benefit of having twin tuners is not only wathching whatever whilst you record one thing but the ability to record two different programs
