Alien vs. Predator banned in Australia

Yet another game has fallen victim to Australia's gaming classification system. SEGA Australia have today confirmed that Aliens vs. Predator, the highly anticipated FPS set for release early next year, has been banned and will not be released as intended onto Australia shelves.

This comes shortly after the ban and subsequent butchering of Left 4 Dead 2 in Australia.

SEGA of Australia had this to say regarding the ban.

SEGA Australia can today confirm that the initial submission of Aliens vs Predator has been Refused Classification by the Classification Operations Board of Australia. We will continue to investigate all options available to us, including the possibility of appeal.

Nothing much else is known at this point as to why it was banned. More as it comes.

no, I don't think I am. But for a game to be rejected due to "excessive violence" (in their own opinion) which will at least make some money and enjoyment for gamers I find absurd and plain naive.

Sega said they aren't going to make any changes either for those "strict countries" because it ruins the gameplay.

get it from the UK, or New Zealand. That's what I'm doing since Aus; NZ and the UK all support the PAL region thus if u import the game it will work on your Australian console.

I looked on Amazon UK and they are taking pre-orders for Alien vs Predator & Aliens: Colonial Marines all for PS3 for around $145 (both games released on same day) or like $72 each. Also orders from the UK are very fast, but I should also check som NZ stores as well.

Aslong as you have a PAL copy (AU, NZ, UK) then it wont affect the DLC.

There's a pretty low chance of being "caught" importing this title. More than ten members from here have imported Silent Hill: HomeComing (US/Asian uncut version) with one being allegedly caught and severely punished with a hefty fine!

That incident occurred at the first week of the release of game. If you want to worry less, I suggest importing it a few weeks later or so. (that'll be my intention).

Obviously the Australian federal government has decided to focusing on only what they can achieve, stop, block and deny access to. To date the current Labour government would have to be one of the 'wordiest' but non-achieving governments ever voted in! I personally have lost count of how how many failed web sites Rudd's mob have created and shut down the cost incurred by us the tax payers!! RANT!
