Dedicated Australian Servers for MAG
In a surprising revelation, Sony today announced that MAG will launch with local, Australian, servers. The dedicated Australian servers were also implemented for Killzone 2 last year, but it still comes as a shock, seeing how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 couldn't do it and left us out in the cold. While console gamers are used to that sort of treatment, it came as a nasty shock to PC players. Fortunately, however, it appears Sony is trying to do something about that with their PS3 exclusives.
In a press release today Alon Isaacs, SCE Australia & New Zealand's Director of Online Services, explained "With 256 players all accessing a game server at the same time, every component of the infrastructure from the server to the database and particularly the network must perform optimally to ensure there are no bottlenecks."
"Like Killzone 2, the global server set will include MAG servers based in Australia, demonstrating Sony Computer Entertainments commitment to do everything it can to ensure that consumers will get an optimal experience when playing this ground breaking title online.”
MAG will be released in Australia on February 11, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
