Can I go online using prepaid broadband???

Hey guys,

Just wondering, is it possible to play online if I buy one of those 3/virgin/telsta etc. prepaid broadband USB drives? I've been told you cant from a few people but does anyone else do it or have tried???

Yea I was going to get a '3' package, its like $29 for 3 gig.

I cant get broadband in my area yet so this is my only option

Im on a pair gain system for people who ant to know why so......bugga!

i used to buy telstra prepaid internet time for my dreamcast back in the dial up days, $30 for 35 hours or something. not sure how you would go with broadband tho, maybe call telstra and ask or just spend $30 2 see if it works

At my old house I had pair gain system & couldnt get adsl either for 5 years, sold the house to my sister & got a new house where I could get adsl, within 3 months of leaving my sister signed up for adsl, bastards must of upgraded the line or something. I think if you rally together with some neighbours Telstra might be prepared to upgrade it.

actually crazynites, in some cases you can just pay about $300 and they'll upgrade your line for you, thats what i had to do before i finally got ADSL when i moved to a new house

no but they work on pc's and then you just hook up your ps3 by ethernet. i had mine set up that way for a few months

its my understanding that this cant be done when you live in a estate with a pair gain system (well thats what Telstra told me 5 years ago), the whole area has to be upgraded as a pair gain system is where 1 line is split & used by many different houses/units (how many Im not sure) therefore adsl wont work, im really not sure what happened at my old estate for it now to work but they must of upgraded something.

Yes you can! via internet connection sharing. that is how i use the internet on my PS3.

hey guys i have my ps3 hooked up to my network (ethernet,ie wired)
does that mean I can still run my ps3 through one of these usb modems? like ElliotDJ is asking about? as I have a laptop, which goes to my router/modem adsl and has my ps3 on it, I totally want to ditch my land line, i hardly use it cept for the net..
only probs is the usb modems so far only give you 5-8 gigs pm and they cut you off after you exced it, just wondering how much playing online would chew your adsl on the usb?
