Hey Entice was that a triple post or is that your answer? I'd say LCD. Although I've never had a plasma my LCD works absolutely perfectly

That was me posting a very long response..hehe

David trust me, go for plasma

Oops! Found something here! Now that's the plasma on the left and the LCD on the right - these are the two top of the range plasma and LCD, respectively

I have to admit i stopped reading half way through

There isnt a huge diffrence between LCD and Plasma TV's anyway. Just get a tv you can afford but make sure it's good quality

I mean you'd be better off with a LCD or a plasma rather than a S**TY old school rear projection piece of C**P

The gap is closing in, but the real technology in the future is OLED, SED and FED.

well, i'd google some more details etc on what people think are better.

some people like plasma's more, some like lcd's more. hell, some lcd's look better than other lcd's whilst the same goes for plasma.

as for me, i'd say lcd, but i'd be hell happy with a plasma aswell.

look at this!

Personal preference plays a major role, just don't opt for the favoured technology even if the TV is dead ugly.

mmm! looking nice. My original concern with plasma was the large size of the pixels and the dark are around them. As I will be viewing from between 4 to 8 feet away, I dont want to be aware of the 'grain' of the screen. The 42pz700a has a pixel size of 0.48mm, which is small enough, but seem huge against my lcd. I'm becoming a bit obsessive about my display panel, lets face it though, the panel is half the story. Otherwise the PS3 is just a stylish fan heater Thanks for the link Kim, soooo black...mmmmm!! Starting to wonder if 5000/1 contrast is enough? Think the Panasonic is the only 42 inch 1080 plasma...correct me if i'm wrong. Can't afford a Pioneer unfortunately, brilliant TVs!

Where you get your money Kim? X series no good? Love those 'deep black' Pioneer plasmas...i'm jealous. I'm sure I read that the Panasonic uses 500+watts, but it seems excessive. Might be a typeO.

TV's have become like PC's , you buy the super dooper model & 2 months later theres a better one. Id really like a full HD TV but I think I'll just go for a budget plasma tv ($1000-1500) with HDMI inputs for the PS3. I dont want to pay $4000 for something that will be getting sold for $2000 in a years time.

Are you sure about that Matthew? I shelled out 6 grand on a Sony 46X and got something like this

After switching 2 different times Sony gave up on me and offered me a full refund, but I refused.

All 2006 X series are plagued by the "backlight clouding" effect.

Now my PS3 is getting some screen tearing error due to the scaler chip when watching DVDs in 1080p, I gave Sony a call and they told me to get a new TV....nice suggestion ey?

Sony's gone down the hill lately, people just don't realise that just because Sony is a well known brand, its products are surely sound....I'm sorry but that's not the case anymore.

My friend has an old non-1080p version of the Panasonic plasma and it reproduces exceptional images, that's how it got me into thinking that my next TV would be a plasma - now comes 1080p, the perfect choice.

Oh and David...I'm a drug dealer

I was thinking of getting the 46" one, but I'm going to wait until there reduced in price, cause $5-6,000 is to much for me to afford. Also Kim, how did you know my real name.

i have the sony s series 32" bravia and its always done wonders for me
i did want 1080p but not much you can do at this size and i sit so close to it in my room (its a small room) i dont think a 40" would do so well lol. i must say
i would never buy a plasma over lcd for gaming. my brothers got a pioneer plasma upscaling blaah, but even still id prefer my bright light lcd any day

xracing where did you get your kuro from? Would you mind taking a few snaps? Because from what I've heard from other buyers, their 1080p version won't arrive until the first batch gets here at the end of November, the non-1080p one is here in stock though. I am thinking of selling my Sony 46X in order to get the 60 inch 1080p Pioneer Kuro.

a:my sister works for pioneer imported office and asked them to get me the display one .i just had it for 3 days

Sorry to hijacak this thread for a sec but are you happy with the Sony as Im looking at buying a new 40" X Series Full HD Bravia LCD. Thanks.

a:sony is 10 times better than my brothers samsung 40" 1080p. especially in graphic outlet, resolution performance and darkness(very impressive)

Have been looking at LCD's for 6 months, and plasma's for longer than that.....but will be waiting a bit longer yet.

A good mate of mine is a Senior techo at Channel 10. He knows TV's pretty well, and the current unit that is used by Channel 10 to monitor their Hi-Def signal is a Phillips CRT television - yep, a tube tele. He reckons that most plasmas and LCD are not worth jack, and won't be until they have a refresh rate of 100hz and at least 25,000:1 static contrast. Its difficult to get a good CRT these days, but if its good enough for a TV station to use to monitor a Hi-Def signal, the old Panasonic CRT will have to do for a few months yet...

The local HardlyNormal salesman told me last week that by the end of next year, you won't be able to buy a 50hz LCD or plasma, and its this 50hz refresh rate which causes a lot of the problems with the picture looking *fuzzy* for fast sports/action movies etc.

New TV (Mainly LCDs) are already out with 100Hz refresh rates, the Sharp AQUOS (Not available in oz yet) even has 120Mhz. It's very experimental, the new Pioneer Kuro has 72Hz, which is the original number of Hz when movies are filmed.

Static contrast ratio? Hehe, LCDs will never be able to reach 25 000:1 (unless there is LED backlighting...but that would be max 20 000:1 static and 500 000:1 dynamic)

Otherwise you can wait 4 years until SED or OLED
