(cont) comes out and you will be able to have CTR technology in a thin shell, or the 1 000 000:1 static contrast ratio of the Sony OLED....but it's max size is only 27 inches at the moment.

I do agree with you that CTRs will offer superior motion handling and colour reproduction, but as time goes by, technology will catch up and CRTs will soon be forgotten...just like DVDs....

Entice said: New TV (Mainly LCDs) are already out with 100Hz refresh rates, the Sharp AQUOS (Not available in oz yet) even has 120Mhz. It's very experimental, the new Pioneer Kuro has 72Hz, which is the original number of Hz when movies are filmed.

Static contrast ratio? Hehe, LCDs will never be able to reach 25 000:1 (unless there is LED backlighting...but that would be max 20 000:1 static and 500 000:1 dynamic)

Otherwise you can wait 4 years until SED or OLED

The best plasma TV you can get: panasonic.com.au/ (any of the PZ700As) are all 100hz too. These screens look and play amazing, absolutly top-notch and multi award winners.

Now all i've been reading on the net is how burn-in is a big issue, and that they can't be used as monitors...I use my TV for internet. I really want the 42pz700a, but perhaps LCD is the safer bet for me?

There was only 1 Phillips TV at HN the other week that was a 100Hz unit - the picture was freakin' awesome. No other models on display at 100Hz, no Panasonic or Pioneer.

He did make an interesting comment about 50Hz - apparently the human eye can detect a maximum of 55 frames per second, and this is why 50Hz refresh rates can seem a bit 'fuzzy'.......and is the reason why the US standard is 60Hz, not 50.

Time to get off to the Panasonic site and check out those PZ700A's.....they sound good.

The best framerate for a movie is 24, weird right? Apparently 24fps eliminates all motion blur! Yes...Hollywood uses 24fps for their movies, that's why you see TVs being advertised as being "2fps capable."

To take full advantage of HD:

70inch 1080p TV with 30 000:1 static contrast
- 24fps
- Deep Colour via HDMI 1.3

Bluray (HD DVD sucks)
-profile 1.1

7.1 channel audio with DTS Master and Dolby TrueHD, stuff Linear PCM...

A big ass couch

Nice humidity and temp controlled room

Slaves to do your house duties (anyone want to volunteer?)

Me in the room, I make the room light up

Not for me, if i went HD in my movies i would run straight for HD-DVD since Paramount and Dreamworks went HD-DVD exclusive.

I think this is more to do with the actual physical properties of the film which is used for filming movies, not so much the properties of digital cameras ?? 24fps is a standard that has been around a long time in movies, thats for sure.

LOL at light up the room !

Today I looked at a new 42" Phillips AQUOS HDLCD 1080P, 100hrtz, seemed good value at $2800 or $3300 for the 46". Anyone got an opinion on these?

Good choice Just don't get into the whole "do I need extra warranty" decision, because all Sharp LCDs come with 3 years warranty.

After doing some research on the net I think I know why blu-ray is gonna win. A high percentage of people have no intentions of buying a HD player in the near future as they mostly feel dvd is still adequate. However when a PS3 is sold so is a blu-ray player & this should in my opinion lead to the war being won by blu-ray. By the time the majority of people feel the need to buy a HD player there will only be one option (blu-ray) as there will already be millions of blu-ray players in use around the world & pushing movie sales. Movie studios who are not yet on blu-ray will jump on board once they compare sales figures.

Well, I would go for the Sharp. Sony is a more well known brand, however Sharp has been producing LCD TVs longer than Sony (omigosh!).

If you compare the Sharp and the Sony side by side, you will find that the quality of the screen and the colour reproduction of the Sharp is way better. This is because Sony uses 4 backlights which are in blocks, where Sharp uses 4 horizontal backlights which can produce colours blending into each other.

We don't see a lot of Sharp LCDs here because they dislike us ozzies Whereas in the US you will find that Sharp LCDs will be EVERYWHERE.

Here's a breakdown:

Performance: Sharp

Aesthetics: Sony

Durability: really depends if you're lucky or not, Sharp offers 3 years warranty whereas Sony offers 1 - any bells?

Worth the bucks: Sharp

There are 2 high end brands for plasmas and LCDs: Pioneer and Sharp respectively. It's sort of like...TVs for the elites

On another note, Sharp actually invests more money into creating new technology, heck....they are about to release LCD TVs with THX certification...that means the TVs are capable of delivering near-cinematic experience. Sharp also created the world's largest TV (bigger than world's largest plasma..surprise!) AND they are going to release the world's first 32 inch 1080p LCD AND they are going to put this little guy out sometime in 2009:

Yeh i really would perfer getting Sharp, but as ive seen alot of other Lcd, mostly dont have as much of qualilty to detail than others on the market... But i bought a Phillips as its cost it was more within my budget at the time and still deliver on great LCD's..

I ran into problems with an old Philips TV so I never dared to purchase another one. But time's changed now and Philips creates innovative TVs, instead of making it "techno wizzy"

Look at the Philips Aurea:

$5000 for a 42 inch...ouch. You only get "average" specs, you pay the extra $2000 for the lighting I guess. The TV is hot, but it's too expensive! I'll just hope that Santa gives it to me.
