Playstation 3 Hardware \ no sound

Hey guys,

just wondering if anyone could help me. borrowed a PS3 of my mate and i plugged it into my plasma, samsung via hdmi output. there is sound when i play blue ray dics and when the menu comes up but when i start playing a game there is no sound at all. anyone know what the problem is? help.... is it the ps3 or my tv?

you might wanna try going into the PS3's sound settings and changing them around. I had the same problem when i loaded Bad Company for the the first time. Recieved a yellow msg saying Sound Type Not Supported. Went in and reselected my HDMI cable for sound and it came good.

Also, when starting up the PS3, hold down the "On" button for an extra beep. That just resets the video / audio options to default. Just a possible solution.

After updating to 2.42, i got half way through playing Euro 2008,
And the game froze.
I had to turn it off manually,
And since my PS3 starts up fine and plays games but there's no sound on the game, menu or blu ray.

I've just turned it off at the power for a few minutes,

Any ideas what it could be.
Tried resetting the video and audio options.

You dont play games online or use the PSN store ? If you dont update you wont be able to sign-in meaning no online gaming or store or PSN friends list.

Matster, try a hard reset by holding the on button down. Otherwise try going into the settings and setting it up again (ie. put the video through HDMI, and then the audio through HDMI). See if that helps.

cheers man, done both, looks like a warranty job.
Sucks man,
Lucky i've got 2 of them though.
It'll still be under 6 months old,
tried holding the power down for a hard reset,
tried video and sound setting in the ps3 menu,
tried moving hdmi ports in the tv,
tried doing a service start (holding down the eject when turning power on at the back)
Tried restoring factory settings (not the format just the restore)

Try plug in a normal composite out cable, and run the left and right channel rca audio into something, see if that works.

anyone thought about the possibility of a dodgy HDMI cord? do you have anything else HDMI in your house you could plug it into or try? try the standard AV cables and just test to see if you have video and audio, I really can't forsee the problem being your ps3, just check and make sure audio output is set to HDMI. make sure volume is up.

I know this sounds like I think your an idiot but sometimes it is the most obvious things.
