In the end, they are all theories. How do people know, when and how the big bang occurd, yes alright scientists have done research for many years finding the epilogue of the earth etc. Religion has theories and evidence aswell, this being carvings on tombs, the passing down of stories through writen and oral traditions. Disciples of Jesus clearly recalling the acts of Jesus. All recalled in the bible. In the end they are all theories, no one will ever know the real answer to creation, with both Religion and Science having evidence.

Todays bible is very different to the original bible that was discovered. Religion was made to basically help enforce laws, so that we dont all kill each other. And science majorly pwns religion.

And your evidence to back that up is... as I say they are all theories so there is no exact answer as to whether Religion Overules Science or Science Overrules Religion.

Well, good discussion guys.. so many points from both sides. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. That's a basis for Christianity.. God says if you believe, then this will be your reward. Its our choice to or not to believe, he hasn't forced anyone.. there's always the choice.

Like I said, for anyone who genuinely wants to see the 'proof' from our point of view, check out that series.

Aside from that, this debate will go on forever.. haha. Thanks to the majority that talked and explained rationally and respectively.

"God says if you believe"...... so you've heard him speak then?

Believing in a God is like believing in pixies, leprechauns, the tooth fairy and Santa but at least the message of Christianity is about being good just a shame you can't have faith in the human race.

I'm personally against religion...i think nuns are ridiculous and i think god is a nobody, a myth in a text rag called the bible collecting dust in some catholic library. I have nothing against people that believe in this sort of thing. But me personally, its bs, for all we know this amazing man you all call jesus was probably some unemployed bearded bum that mooched from his mother at the age of 36. You want opinions then there you go, you just got mine

ALSO my mate has this very convincing shpeel about why GOD doesnt exist... its all to do with HUMANS being a highly developed virus and all stuff like that... very interesting when ya listen to him, and convincing too if no-one knew any different

IMO christianity was originally just something that a group of drunk teenagers came up with and started "talking" about and it started from there HAHA

science and religion actually work together... read the bible, stuff that was discovered only recently (few hundred years) was already in the bible thousands of years old.

there is too many things in this world that show intelligent design to think that it happened by chance LOOK AT YOUR FREAKING BODY!! by chance? YEAH RIGHT!!

Science is more of a religion than religion. Evolution still requires a strong belief, and a hell of a lot of faith as it actually goes against a lot of science (eg, Thermodynamics). People believe as strongly on evolution as any other religion. And you know what? Evolution has absolutely even less bearing on life than church type religions. I frankly don't give a **** if god created us or we magically appeared via the equally absurd and unsupported evolution fairy tale. What does it actually matter?

dude i agree but there is a very good reason for religion. like, for all the vomiting you do though the needless "hallmark" style sentiments that come our way all the time, some of it actually makes sense, like everyone needs positivity, confidence, etc and alot of that can come very easily from having strong faith in something. whether its god or a particular religion, the universe itself, karma, WHATEVER you want to believe in, it increases your inner strength as a person, and therefore your ability to cope with life in general.

you can be a scientist and believe that too

What matters, is what happens when you die.

You might be right, and we might all just turn to dust.

Or, we might be right. And you spend eternity living in death.

Yeah, I know personally which chance I'd rather take. Your personality and soul is too complex to just be an evolved organism, you're so much more than that.

Religion is the cause of most of the worlds problems. I believe in God, but I despise religion. I think that a scientific person would be naive to deny the existence of a supernatural power behind all life in the universe, but religion is a mad-made, propaganda fueled burden on this planet.

As a wise man once said, "Religion is the opium of the mases"

(sorry for the double post)

This is part of a prologue to a book I'm writing.

It’s unfortunate that Religion is so common in everyday lifestyle. The argument as to why we should believe in one religion is strong and thoroughly considered, yet the argument against Religion is often downsized and criticised. Why is this? Why is it so hard to associate life without religion? Is it so hard to have faith in yourself, family and friends, rather than a supernatural being who, by all intent and purposes, has no influence on our lives (if they do in-fact exist)? Granted, not everyone has family and friends and the mental strength to have faith in themselves, but our life is built around a particular book of scribing's that are not proven, are denounced by science and are often contradicted by the actions that take place in society today.

But that’s religion. It would be hard even for a scientific person, not to believe in a higher being, a being that created the Earth, the universe and us. It would be sad to think that after death there is nothing and our lives are unimportant and less meaningful then we make them out to be.

Our lives are meaningful, yet that meaning cannot be distinguished and defined because to do so would be to force insanity onto one self. Life is complexity at its finest with a few extra spices thrown in for some zing and surprise. We shouldn’t need to define the meaning of life, but rather interpret it.

The bible is hardly a factual piece of evidence. It was written by men who were most likely high on opium and cocaine. We all know how storytelling evolves. Religion has absolutely no evidence. Anyone could have written the bible. Someone travels across the desert 2000 years ago, hasn't had a drink of water for a week, is delirious, and speaks of how they saw Jesus "walk on water". People believe him and write about it. Evidence for religion would be human remains, something. Anything. There's nothing. Isn't it funny that all of these "magical" and "miracle" things happened when drugs weren't outlawed, the media didn't exist and there was no way of documenting something other than with scribings? Granted, a lot of things have happened in history where their existence was only noted through scribings, but the signing of the decleration of independance or captain cook discover

(cont'd)

or captain cooks discovery of Australia didn't involve a man coming back from the dead, or a man splitting an ocean in two just so he could walk across it.

To say the occurances in the bible actually took place because they're actually IN the bible is like saying that any fairytale or any "fictional fact" actually occured as well.

The only reason Religion exists is because "man", the human race, has a conscience. We need a reason as to why we're here and why everything is the way it. We haven't discovered the real reason yet, and in come religion with its propaganda to get people on board and pretend to have the answers. We've convinced ourselves that we know, but we don't. And me might not ever know. In the mean time, I'll just live my life without relying on a book or on stories that tell stories that, based on science, are impossible.
