So in that sense we are all relying on our FAITH in some way or another. If you believe in science you are taking on faith that what scientists told you is true. (remember propaganda is still very much apparent in our society and a lot of people take it to be true...)

We define our own reality based upon what we believe.

Then I choose to believe the less stupid sounding theory then!

"Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of 10 things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these 10 things he has a special place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry for ever and ever until the end of time...but he loves you."

You are still taking all of the so called science behind evolution as truth. It is speculation. You are still taking it on faith. It does not answer "how did simple organisms evolve to the point where we are today" with an answer any more scientifically provable than creationism.

First of all. There is very little in the theory of Evolution that is speculation. We have clear evidence of evolution of species.

I man seriously, how do you explain the fossils that show a clear pattern of evolution?

How do I explain? I don't. I don't care who is right. The point is you are taking it on faith the evolution fairy tale explanation for it. How do you actually explain how the fossils got there? How is something actually fossilised? How the hell does the fossilised remains of two items lets call them A and B prove anything, let that A evolved to B? What utter ludicrous stupidity. Would you be stupid enough to dig in your backyard and find a AA battery fossil, and a D cell battery fossil and jump to the conclusion that the D battery must have evolved from the AA?
Once again you are still taking their BS on faith. There is no real evidence either way.

.....and the ongoing research of the Galapagos (?spelling) finches, first studied by Darwin himself. some of those species have evolved new abilities/body parts since he first discovered them and its all documented and continually studied.......i mean thats just one example.....theres probably hundreds of examples of wildlife researchers who have documented examples of evolution by now....

seriously, if you think evolution is a fairytale, either you are in a cult, or your parents/teachers/government (yeah, u know which country im talking about) are pulling the wool over your eyes because they are afraid of the truth for some strange reason....personally i see no reason why science and religion cannot work together

Ok guys, I don’t like where this is heading.

I think you all have to realize there is no "right" answer, this is a subjective matter. If people want to have faith in their religion who are you to tell them they can't. Conversely if people want to believe in science and then people of fait should respect others beliefs as well.

In the end it doesn’t really matter who is right or who believes what. All that really matters is that we live, have a good time and enjoy life while we can

firstly, i thought the thread was "Science vs Religion"......now, thats a title that promotes arguments straight off the bat, so if you're gonna lock the thread for that reason, it should have been done two days ago.

secondly, my point (although it may have been misunderstood by some) isnt to say anyone "can't" do anything. im trying to say why does it have to be "vs"? why does there have to be only one winner? cant they both co-exist together?

cant we all jus git alonnnggggg?

How? Religion is when you believe in a higher power, but atheists don't believe in that sort of thing.

In a sense it is. Its a set of beliefs and a recognition of a governing force. (science).

I wouldnt call a religion one that believes in a supreme being since there are many these days that dont, particularly eastern religions that dont and believe in other spiritual concepts (i think someone mentioned this before but, Chi?)

Religion = system of beliefs.

Saying your an athiest just as much declares your beliefs as saying your a muslim, hindu, buddist etc.

As soon as you proclaim to be athiest, agnostic etc you have defined a set of beliefs and possibly even a lifestyle for yourself.... thus.... religious

Yes I know, wikipedia is just sooo reliable because people don't deliberately mess up the articles.

Anyway, I didn't have the time to fully read it, but what I did read was interesting. Especially this part:

Okay, I will lock this thread before things go out of control.

Please don't take the opinions in this thread as personal insults, they are merely opinions and opinions do not shape our beliefs.

We apologise to those offended in advance, this complex topic about science vs religion is a sensitive one; therefore opinions from different individuals with contrasting ideologies will offer their own beliefs.

It is a basic human value that we respect others' beliefs and their upbringings.
