Well I have VS as well and have been fiddling with it for a while, it's just a 6 with pacemakers, mandrel bent exhaust, power chip, CAI, tricked auto lowered etc etc. I'm this close to dropping it off at my mates workshop and getting a full respray. I also have 98 prelude 2.2 VTEC that both my misses and I drive.

If you have the bank balance you can squeeze a stupid amount of power out of the, this guy has managed 1895rwhp @ 33psi but I think he's gotten more out of it recently.

Guyver, you don't get what im saying. Why do people bother with old technology? (LS1) pushrods are ancient... LET IT GO. Also sure that guy pumped out 1895rwhp but that is a given on a 5.7 litre (tt?) v8. I prefer to squeeze out over 1200rwhp out of my smaller motors (3 litre 6's)

Well I just found out my engine is not too far away from crapping it's self, 300,000k's of abuse is pretty good though. Now I have an excuse to do something to it

just because its old doesnt mean it doenst work my friend.
ford went for a quadcam V8 to advance V8 technology. only problem is, they reached the limit of how much power they can get from that engine and now are going back to pushrod V8's in the new FPV's as they quadcam just wont cut the mustard. pushrods are tried and tested and still set the benchmark for proven V8 power.
as for getting 1200rwhp out of a turbo 6 compared to 1900rwhp out of a turbo 8. ure around 700hp down which in the big horsepower numbers game means ure a world away. also, V8's sound a million times better doing it.
i love my pushrod V8 VS calais. sounds mean, goes good enuff to get you into trouble and is piss easy to work on due to its simplicity.
not knocking jap turbo power. my mate runs a 300zx drift pig with massive garrets and FMIC. it goes like stink. but some people prefer the rumble of an 8 opposed to the rush of a turbo 6. always will.

are YOU going to squeeze 1200rwhp from your car?
pushrod technology itself is outdated yet, but these new LSx and boss motors are full of technology. you think they are gonna slap a 50yo motor in a car with efi and let it go?? 50 years old mean 50 years of development.

dont know if i agree with the reason you say they are going back to pushrods... i think it has more to do with the convenience and global (US truck) appeal of a pushrod truck engine. That quad cam ford motor powers the GT40 dont forget...

Change your diff gears, see if you can find a second hand VL turbo diff. That will give you more go.

im not saying v8's cant make big power, im just saying id rather pull big power out of a smaller motor.
As for saying im 700hp behind... i just used 1200hp as an example there are a few big powered zx's and supras making more power than that over in the states
jeffie im not going to put out that much power.. this car is my daily, i want something that will boogie but last more than a few runs on the strip so ill be aiming for about roughly 540rwhp (400 odd kw's)

sh*t dude you must be pouring money into your Z, most people who drive their Z's on the street only go for 250-300RWKW, thats quite easy to obtain. More than that and your looking at upgraded turbos, bigger injectors, bigger cams, forged pistons because of the excess boost you will be running, plus all the other stuff to get to get you there like turbo back exhaust, lightened flywheel/upgraded clutch to handle the power, under drive pulleys and most importantly a good tune. you must be spending close to $10000 on the engine/tune plus labor...

10,000 wont get me anywhere near that 
10k will get me a set of TD05's and forged pistons including labour. Set of injectors close to 1k.. ill have to change dump pipes as they are 4 bolt (new turbos will be 5 bolt i think), new ecu + tune bout 2k all up. Already have things such as lightened flywheel, single piece ca

Depending on the turbos i go... it will cost between 2-4k (including pipework etc). Forged bottom end will set me back about 6k, injectors another 1k roughly. An ecu like a wolf will cost about 1200 + a tune. Will need 5 bolt dumps, might as well go something decent like z1 dumps etc... it all adds up especially becuase its twin turbo... you gotta double up on almost everything
