Killzone 2 - 9/10
Killzone 2 had people talking about its release even before the ps3 was out. When the ps3 was launched Killzone 2 had to be the game that told people this is what the ps3 can do. And did it? Well of course!
Killzone 2 follows the events of Killzone and Killzone: Liberation, and takes place entirely on the planet Helghan, the home-world of the Helghast, who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy's homeworld of Helghan. The ISA goal is to capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Scolar Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt. Players assume the role of Sergeant Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko, a battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit Alpha Team, who go on a mission to take out the Helghast threat.
Campaign mode is fun and to play through even though it’s short and it’s only in single player mode, the graphics are the main feature in the campaign mode and Sony did not let us down on that one. Sony's Resistance Fall of Man and Resistance 2 affected my insight of Playstation's first person shooters because each time I played Resistance games I felt like the enemy was always focused on me even though I had a squad of ten in front of me. Killzone took that image out my head when a realized the enemy doesn’t just focus on me but on my teammates instead. Teammates are very helpful by killing the enemy but sometimes can get in your way; you can whack them out the way by pressing L1. The controls are one of the best things about Killzone although when after playing Call of Duty World at War I did get confused on what button to press but after a few minutes of playing the game you get idea. The Story dose continue itself from the first Killzone but if this is your first time playing KZ then you can still understand what’s going on, if you are a fan of the early KZ games then the story will fit into place nicely from where the story ended in the last KZ.
So what about multiplayer? In one word awesome. Up to 32 people can play online on one map, players play as either the ISA or Helghast, with no gameplay difference pending on which team one is assigned to other than character model. Each class levels up with experience gained from killing or completing mission objectives, with enough experience they unlock new weapons, skills etc. as well as a new class that is unlocked. Each class has two badges, the Primary badge selects the class and their specified skill, the secondary badge has an extra skill for the specified class but can be swapped to custom create your own class.
Verdict: 9/10
If you’re a fan of first person shooters then this is the game for you.
