Cod W@W map pack. - 7/10
Last week marked the arrival of a new map pack for Cod 5. 3 brand new multiplayer maps and one new nazi zombie map. Lets take a look at what the 3 multiplayer maps are like.
Knee deep:
Knee deep is a map that is very similar to Makin island, only much bigger.
The action on this map takes place in the daylight. It has lots of huts and bunker type buildings in which to hide. A river runs through the middle of the map, with lots of reeds and plant life in which to hide or take cover.
Unlike Makin, this village or island, has fortified buildings and bunkers. They are multi leveled, with openings everywhere from which to shoot. The map is scattered with sandbag emplacements, trucks, barrels and boxes from which you can take up position to shoot. The river is bridged at two spots and a lot of the fighting will take place across the river.
Nightfire:
Nightfire is set in some town in the Euroupean theatre of war. This map is again very big. It consists of bombed out multi leveled buildings that all face towards a central plaza.
This map is a snipers paradise. A good stealthy sniper will do very well here. There are heaps and heaps of places for a sniper or camper to operate. The buildings have windows, bombed out sections, ledges and doorways which you can use to snipe from.
Inside the buildings there are boxes and furniure for campers to hide behind. There is a factory type building in the middle, which is multi layered and has passage ways runnig from it in all directions.
In team matches a lot the action takes place here, usually with one team defending it and the other attacking it. The night time effect works much better in this enviroment than it does on Makin. The use of fires and spotlights really make this map standout.
Station:
This map is fantastic and very challenging. Again very big. Visually its a fantastic map, with burning fires and sparking power lines adding to the realism. Its set in the day time and the lighting of the sun shinning through roof looks great.
Its basically set in a bombed out underground train station. There are multiple train platfroms, complete with trains, running down the middle. In the middle of this a section of the roof has fallen in, which you can climb up on and see the length of the station in both directions. You can climb on, over or into the trains to shoot.
Either side of the tracks are countless tunnels and passage ways, which have rooms running off of them and open areas to do battle in. At each end of the train platforms, there are connecting stairs, where u can go up and cross over the platforms, these areas also have a couple of passage ways running of them as well.
This map is different to nearly all the other MP maps, due to the fact that there is no real central battle area. Due to the size, the amount of passage ways and the trains, finding your opponents can be difficult. A lot of the fighting in team games will take place one on one and the battles quickly become spread out all of the map. Recon planes are very handy here. Snipers can operate very effectivley from the ends of the map, though once again finding someone to shoot can be difficult if all of the fighting is taking place in the passage ways.
All of the maps are visually outstanding and they are all big. These maps will add countless more hours to the game and force you into employing a different set of tactics from which you are used to. Well made and a lot of fun, these maps are a must have for any online w@w player.
I give them a 7 out of 10. It would have been 8/10 if they were 5 bucks cheaper
