You're effectively shooting yourself in the foot... you need more expensive RAM (maybe $200) and a cheaper motherboard ($200 as well)

Just remember XP can't use more than 3gig for anything, you'll need vista or 1 stick of ram will sit there doing nothing.

Ram makes the game run faster so get 4gigs (recommended)
Thanks callan and vin
Don't know what iddqd is talking about but the motherboard is priority an important part in a comp cause its hardest part to upgrade.

Stonecold what Iddqd means is that an expensive board with cheap RAM is a waste, the RAM should be faster or the board cheaper, it's overkill and the money could go somewhere else.
Vin make sure that 550W is a true 550. Your GPU and Processor will drain a lot of power. My mates 8800GTX has a 500W minimum or they dont cover it under warranty. Then of course there's also the RAM, HDD and DVD rom etc that need power.
Also make sure that CPU cooler is good cause Quad's run hot.
With the RAM you will need a 64 bit edition of XP or Vista otherwise it will not detect it all, 32 bit ed (standard one) will detect around 3GB max.
ALso keep in mind with a Quad, they future proof your machine but aren't really used yet. Not many programs use all 4 cores (some are lucky to use 2) it's mostly stuff like Autocad and 3d studio that do. Will see more potential when future games etc make use of em.
Happy Birthday Mate

Don't think so dsreaper, faster Ram isn't as important as a faster motherboard and videocard.
