Following Take-Two's fourth quarter results, CEO Ben Feder has made a response in a conference call to the companies support to counter the enourmous success of the Wii.
Feder stated that "all of our sports titles are looking at the Wii as a potential platform" and that "Even much of our M-rated content that we feel is much more appropriate for the PS3 or 360, we have to look at the Wii as a viable platform across all our labels. We just have to. We can't ignore the installed base; we just can't. And we're going to do a lot of learning with GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS in terms of bringing that kind of content to a Nintendo platform."
Considering how small the number of hardcore, adult-centric games there are on the Wii, Take-Two would be smart by investing in more mature content on the console, especially considering its strong install base.
The question we ask is, do sales numbers represent demographic? If a console is selling well, does this mean that any type of genre will appeal to the largest cross-section of gamers who own that console? Feder speaks like that because the Wii has sold so many consoles, that mature games must do well on it. Is he right to attempt to dictate how Wii gamers will spend their money? If you're a die-hard Wii gamer, would be interested in more mature content from Take-Two and their sport franchises from 2K?
