While the newly created podcast for the MyMedia Sites “The Voice” is much larger in scale and content, so far the first Retro-Grade segment is shaping up to be a fantastic little supplement to the main podcast.
While The Voice is more of a news and reviews delivery content system, that is informative and fun, Retro-Grade gives us more freedom to not only be informative, but put across some more of opinions and let those who are interested, learn a little more about ourselves, and our standing on the World Of Gaming.
I dreamed up this concept of a segment, no longer than half an hour where we would take an in-depth look at some of our favourite consoles and gaming series, where not only would we give our listeners information on these systems or games, but it would give us a chance to just talk about the things we love.
Guyver was the most obvious candidate to be involved, he has written countless Retrospective articles for the MyMedia sites over the years, so what started as just a small idea I threw into Gaetano’s office has now culminated into a fully fledged podcast.
While it lands on your computers or iPods as a semi glossy podcast, a lot of work has gone into this small segment. Using the same method to record the last episode of The Voice with Skype, this time it was with three people in the chat. We had to do a lot of editing to make sure that the pauses in between each person speaking weren’t overly long, and at the end of it all I think it’s pretty good for a first go, especially considering Guyver had not been involved in podcasting before.
Other exciting features with the Retro-Grade podcast is not only the inclusion of pictures but also Chapters. When we are talking about certain things, if you are listening on an ipod or similar device it should come up with pictures of what we are talking about, for instance when talking about the different peripherals for the Super Nintendo, you will see pictures of the peripherals we are discussing.
The podcast is cut up into chapters which can be skipped through like songs on a playlist. This podcast is broken up into
Chapter 1: The Intro
Chapter 2: The Super Nintendo
Chapter 3: The Games
Chapter 4: The Peripherals
Chapter 5: The End
If this works well for the members of the MyMedia sites, then we will look at adding this feature for future episodes of The Voice, to break up the segments, so if someone for instance isn’t interested in the Review Run segment, they can skip right on through to the next segment.
So not only was this a fun project, but it was also a great chance to experiment with some new features that if are well accepted, we can include into our main podcast.
I hope you all enjoy. Retro-Grade will be launched VERY soon, and a blog posting will be made to inform you all :)
