It's all well and good to keep the swearing off the streets of Home, you play nice kids. But Sony may have taken this a step too far with their chat censorship in the Home Beta. Gamers found initially that if they entered 'hello' it would be censored because it contained 'hell', which is apparently a bad word.
Other terms that have been incorrectly censored include "gay," "bisexual" and "lesbian," along with "Christ" and "Jew." While these terms are sometimes hot topics for debate they certainly should not be censored, after all we wouldn't want it teaching kids that these are 'bad words' when they are just used to identify different communities in society.
"The key message is it's a beta and it's evolving on a daily basis," SCEA spokesman Patrick Seybold. "We've said early on that user behaviour and feedback will shape where we go with Home."
Granted it a tough job to get any type of chat censoring working. Sony want to keep everything safe for kids, and don't want the whole thing turning into a crowd of people abusing each other, but if they censor too much it may result in just that.
