Hooking ps3 up via wireless router.

hey,
recently got my ps3 (finally) & am having some major troubles getting hooked up online via a wireless router.

could anyone give help me out, walk through type style?

getting a DNS error.

Can you go online if you plug in the ps3 though a cable though? Or same DNS error?

did you click automatic or manual when you were configuring your ps3 to the web

To be honest Vatoloco, i've only tried setting it up wireless. i didn't really want to have to resort to establishing a connection via cable.. due to where & whom i live with, just wouldn't work.

& Jimbo, i tried both set up option.. several times.

idk what's wrong with the setup.

I just ask if it works on wired connection to make sure it really works.

My cousin had the same dns issue when he tried to setup his one. Make sure you've got the right wep or wpa keys when you setup the wireless. Also make sure its not too far. Once its all set up andyou're getting a success when you run the "Test connection", you need to update the firmware before you can really go online.

Main thing you need to consider is wireless key and the signal.

Also is your router providing dhcp? Are you setting it up with a static address or using the dhcp on your router? Is it the only wireless device you are usig with your router? If so make sure the router is configured with the correct dns server entries also when it is connect check what network settings it has set and see if they match your pc. You may have setup the wrong ip for your dns server on the ps3. Hope that's not to confusing.

ha.. it kinda was. but thanks for helping ( ) ha.
ah well i live with other kids. so our internet and router is just setup in the loungeroom beside the phone..
i know i have correct passcode and such. but i think with the i have all the connections and number address thingies wrong.

apologies for my lack on intellect on this topic - how can i find those things you asked me?

There are some tips in this thread. www.myps3.com.au/ If you put in the information provided by your ISP and enable security you shouldn't have too many problems. I'm not a tech geek so I really can't offer too much help without being there. If all else fails I guess you could do some Googling?

ah i've done many all nighters googling for the cure and taking gaming breaks to remedy the setup frustration ha.

if all else fails, guess you'll have to catch the next flight in..

If your router is set to dhcp server then set the ps3 to wireless and to dhcp that should take care of everything. Easiest way to tell is look at your other computers etc and see if they are set to dhcp. If so just leave the ps3 on dhcp and it should get all the correct settings. Also check the ip address the ps3 is getting. If it starts with a 169. Then you have no connectivity to your router and you either have no signal or the wrong wep key
