Yes ozchaps, all of the demos were taken from the PSN store and I have no imported games or demos.

Having a guide is great.. i'm getting my hdd delivered this week... i knew nothing about hdd or my own ps3 till I joined this forum.. thanks guys i'll tell you how it all goes once iv'e put it in.

just another tip tonyamanda, make sure you and anyone else who does this upgrade had a GOOD QUALITY screwdriver kit because if you don't, you may strip the threads or worse. I wish you all the best in the upgrade and just take your time.

yeh the only part that I had troubles with was removing the screws on the old HDD.

Basically I striped the screw heads so badly I had to drill the screw heads off to get the old one out of its mounting

upgraded my hdd a long time ago, from the 60gb to the 250gb. So far no problem of running out of space even though i've got over 60 demos and games plus i've copied alot of mp3 albums onto it for listening pleasure.

longarms, that is why I put a pic of the screwdriver set on that tutorial mate. It works great for removing and restoring the screws in the new drive. You NEED a driver with a large rubber handle to get leverage and a heat-treated end which makes it a harder material than the screws themselves(sorry, if you knew that).

no I didnt, i was using a cheap set of screw drivers I got at Go-Lo

, wich is why I ended up needing to drill them off

I'm about to buy a 500GB HDD for one of my PS3s. But I'm wondering if I can pull the 250GB out of my first PS3, and insert it into my second PS3? Or will the HDD be locked to the console's serial or something.

Yes it seems that when ever you put a different HDD in a PS3 it need's to format it before you can use it. So you can’t take your old HDD out and put it in a different machine and have it still have all your old stuff on it.

Oh and if you want to make a vertical dotted line you can just use the [ hr] tag (without the space) and it will make a line like this

One last question, when you backup your PS3 through Settings ... does that include game installs, demos and PSN games? Or is that not included?

Those screws are VERY tight! Make sure the screwdriver has a fat handle to give you enough torque, otherwise you will strip the screws or your hand.

60GB upgraded to 320GB.

Cheers mate. I've started backing up my PS3 to my My Book (FAT32).
It did give me a warning that some content will be copied, if restored to a different console. It also said copyright-protected content will not be restored (I'm assuming on the different console).

Will find out tomorrow? xD

yeah but do you actually have any shared PSN games freya? cos im pretty sure you need to re-access their accounts to re-activate your shared games.....

thats the other problem i just had.....my 18-month old console needs a bit of WD-40 before i'm gonna get that blue screw to move a bloody inch

.....so im going to put it off another day anyway, unless i can get hold of someone with some spare WD-40 tonight

oooh .....shared PSN games, but that won't make any differnt, you login with their user name and download the game into your HDD, so when backing it up, so would too...i rackon..
