PS3 compatible web cams

Are there any web cams compatible with the PS3? I can't really justify spending $$$ to purchase a Sony Eye camera for my PS3 and I have presumed until today that my 5yr old web cam doesn't work because it is... well old.

Today we received a brand new super dupa web cam as a present so I plugged it into the USB port on my PS3, loaded him up, only to be told the camera wasn't compatible...

WTF?

I have to say I paid $7.95 instead of $79.95 for my eye cam thingy coz of some dimwitted teen who coulnd't read or count of something. Lucky for me coz I haven't seen any value in it whatsoever. The games that support it are juvenile, the voice stuff has so far been less than pathetic.
