PS3 Slim could have been smaller
Sony's PS3 Slim designers have noted that the console could have actually been smaller.
Sony's executive VP of technology Masayuki Chatani revealed to Japanese newspaper Nikkei that the 120GB and 250GB PS3 slim consoles could have actually been made even smaller. However, Sony decided against it. You see, not only was the goal to cut costs, they also wanted to make the PS3 more attractive. If it were smaller the power supply would have been external, like the Xbox 360, thus ugly.
They also considered removing the internal hard-drive and replacing it with either flash or virtual storage, but they were deemed to be too unreliable and expensive.
The PS3 Slim only shed 1.5 kilos, and is roughly the same size as the current Xbox 360. Come to think of it, the slim isn't really that small at all.
