Ok so I hired this game yesterday. Played through hard mode start to finish without failing one song. I'm really glad i didn't buy it. Still pretty new to the Guitar Hero series, started out with GH3. Unless you are the world's biggest Aerosmith fan, GH3 beats this title hands down. There are a few perks to this Aerosmith version. You learn a little about their career through video interviews with the band members as you progress. This was sorta like Aerosmith 101 as i knew very little about the band previously to playing this. What I did know was the Armageddon song "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". Tragic rock ballad but was still expecting it to be on one of the set-lists. Shattered when I found it wasn't. The thing with most of Areosmith's songs is that they are all relatively slow tempo wise so its not that hard to wrap your fingers around most of the notes. The difficulty and song selection just wasn't there. At the risk of spoiling the ending, the final cinematic was a little pretentious. A rocket ship is leaving earth and then one like 15 times the size with AEROSMITH written on the side flies into this space station. Then the windows open up and they are playing to planet earth. I interpreted this as "Aerosmith has taken over the world". Sorta lame. I did hear however that the band has made more money from this Guitar Hero title than all their albums combined. Interesting to think about how interactivity is changing the music industry as a whole. The classic guitar hero gameplay is still present which is the only thing that saves this title. The satisfaction you gain from making your little plastic Gibson wail through your television speakers is still there. Graphics are the same as GH3. A few new venues to play and characters to unlock. The game is basically GH3 with an Aerosmith skin. When it comes down to it, this is a good game to hire to play through a few new songs. I wouldn't buy it unless you have an Aerosmith tattoo or one of their songs changed your life. If this is the case then Guitar Hero: Aerosmith would be a good addition to your collection. Don't pay more than 50 bucks for it though. My guess is it will be in a discount bin very soon.
