Crash Commando - 9/10
No need to rescue the girl and save the world from being enslaved in this shooter. There is one aim, one reason, one purpose; pull that trigger until the enemy explodes.
The quietly released game Crash Commando overall has one basic idea, which as mentioned above, is simply kill the enemy. There are 3 modes with one mode having 2 separate “modes” amongst it. You have Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Objectives to choose from. The first 2 are fairly self explanatory and if they are new to you, pick up a game. The objectives mode is one of 2 things; blow up separate things in 3 areas or “steal data” from computers scattered around the map, bring it back to your spawn and stay alive for a little bit while the data “uploads” to gain a point for your team. There’s nothing complicated about this game at all which is good because it’s both fun and comical at the same time while keeping a steady pace of challenge and variety.

The game operates very similar to another PC game I have played (will go into more detail further down) called Soldat. If you have played it before, you will know exactly how the game operates. It’s a 2D side-scroller shooter. You use one joystick to move your character and one to aim your gun in a 360 degree motion. You can use the jetpack (L1) to fly up for a limited amount of time. There’s a few guns to choose from and 2 “super guns” to pick up in the game which own
hard. You can also drive vehicles which work surprisingly well, there’s a tank and a buggy to choose from each with their own pros and cons.
Now I have to say that this game is
fun and is easily one of the best PSN games that have been released. My top 3 PSN games (in no particular order) are Age of Booty, Super Stardust HD and Crash Commando. If I had to order them Crash Commando and Super Stardust would fight for the top position, it’s that good.
It’s good because it’s fun, funny, challenging, plenty of variety and easy to pick up and play. There’s plenty to do as it has singleplayer custom games with bots, a “campaign”, the online modes, trophies and online challenges to complete.
If you’re not sure if you want to play it or not, download the
free game Soldat. It works the same way except Crash Commando (CC) has different modes, less guns and vehicles. If you enjoy Soldat you will love CC, if you hate Soldat you still might like CC but you might be better off getting it via a trade or something.

CLOSING COMMENTS
The game is well worth the $16 and really should be installed on your hard drive. ‘Nuff said.
GAMEPLAY
Fun, addictive gameplay with plenty of challenge and variety. The gameplay is not original or revolutionary but it works and works damn well.
SOUND
Great sound effects with some nice background sound. The voice over is very cheesy but works well in the comical fashion that the game is setup.
GRAPHICS
Good graphics, nothing special but there’s no complaints here.
REPLAY-ABILITY
Trophies and online are the only real reason to play it. To get 100% on the trophies will take you a while to get and because the game is so much fun, you will see yourself playing it quite often.
