Burnout Paradise Review - 8/10

Burnout Paradise is the latest instalment, and the first Burnout game to appear on the PS3. But, as time has progressed since burnout 1 we have seen many changes to the franchise. This time around, it’s a great drive through Paradise City.
Burnout Paradise features a completely new city, titled “Paradise City”, as there are no cops to chase you, there are rules meant to be broken. If you want to get down and dirty, Paradise City is the place for you. The game has online as well, which I will get into a bit later on.

The game play –
The Game play is like most other burnout games, with all the cars feeling different, depending on what type of car you pick. Most cars have similar feels, with some cars just drifting around all the time. The controls are good, and will be easy for most racing fans to get used to easily. The damage in burnout is good, with each hit you take making the car look gradually worse and worse. The game play is very smooth, and feels just right. Motorbikes, where do I begin? The new free downloadable pack includes motorbikes, which I find unnecessary but, some gamers may enjoy racing by themselves, with single player only offering time trials for bikes. The bikes handle O.K. I would say that burnout paradise is more fun on car, but it’s up to you. The game has some various modes, like the classic sprint race, going from point A to B, the road rage, where you must take out a certain amount of cars within a time limit, marked man, where you must make it to a certain point on the map while being targeted by other cars trying to take you out, ShowTime, which is one fun mode, which lets you throw your car around and earn some money by damaging things. You will have to drive around the map to discover new challenges and races. The trophies are very easy to achieve, with simple tasks required to gain silver or gold trophies.

The graphics and sound –
The graphics are great, with a medium to large sized map. The cars look great, and the city is really good. There aren’t much frame rate issues here to complain about. The game also has a day and night cycle, which can be changed to real time as well. The game features a variety in soundtrack, featuring songs from burnout 1,2 and 3, as well as artists like avril lavigne. The cars sound great.

The online –
Burnout just gets more fun here! In online, you can take on paradise city with 8 players, competing in time challenges, free burn challenges and other activities. The game allows you to send a mug shot to other players if you wreck their car, to send them a reminder (eyetoy required). You play online with both bikes and cars, but you can only play with a bike in the bike servers, and vice versa with the cars.

The value –
Burnout Paradise will keep you playing for a few days (I finished it in 2 days), with trophies and online making you enjoy your money’s worth ($24 at JB-hifi). For a platinum range title game, this is great value. With heaps of DLC avaliable, such as the legendary cars, big surf cars, cops n robbers packs, and others, this is something you cannot resist.

I think burnout paradise is a great game that has kept players wanting to play it more and more, with a lot of players still online. As a platinum game you can’t go wrong, for such a cheap price, burnout paradise is a must buy if you are a racing fan.
