I have a large 4GB+ file (video) I wanted to watch, so External HDD would be the only option. But it doesn't show as being connected.

Entice says:

Hmm is it formatted in FAT32 or NTFS?

04/15/2007 Sydney

ccs says:

HDD is NTFS, because if it was FAT32 the file wouldn't even go onto the drive.

when i see how much i have its says 43gb/55gb, i thought the ps3 was 60gb?

04/15/2007 Brisbane, QLD {PSN = aimar120}

zfishes says:

thats because
60 000 megabyte = 58.59375 gigabyte
and you lose a few GB for formating ect so you get around 55GB

I havent see people using HD (by using USB) yet, but I've saw the magazines mentioned people use bigger 160G HD, they take off the original HD and replace 160G in. (Original PS3 HD using Seagate brand)

Another one I saw is they used 3.5inch Hd (original PS3 use 2.5inch), they extended the SATA cable out and connected to a 250G 3.5inch HD, and run external power on it. Coz they dont wanna put extra power on the PS3.

But 1st few times, PS3 wont recognised the bigger HD, but after been reset for few times, then its fine.

Hi Guys,

I have a 300GB external connected to my PS3 with no problems, its a:

320Gb Western Digital "JB" 7200 RPM ATA/100 IDE Hard Drive, 8mb cache (HD-WD3200JB) formatted as FAT32 in a generic enclosure.

This works with no problems at all with the PS3, great for backup or heaps of encoded vids.

I have installed Linux on my PS3 and will test the external drive with this too, should be fine.

peace

Well that about sums it up, looks like you'll need to format the HDD as a FAT32 partition ccc. I doubt the PS3's operating system can recognise NTFS, although you'd think they allow for it to be used..

ZOIDBERG says:

Can any external Hard Drive brand work by using Fat32 or is it only Maaddog's one "Western Digital"

Anyone confirm ?
