5 reasons to love MAG
5 Reasons to Love MAG!
MAG is a unique title. A MMO FPS console title that, while massively hyped before release, has had a massive question mark hovering over its head. Early reviews have been good, but not great, but most reports have this as a title that can easily last the test of time. With such an aggressive focus on online gaming and teamwork, you'd hope such a game, and an PS3 exclusive nonetheless, has the potential and value to stay in your Playstation 3 for years to come, much like the Call of Duty titles.
With such a massive scope, one can only imagine that MAG has the potential to be massive in experience and action. It is, without a doubt, but that doesn't mean everyone will love it.
Below are 5 reasons why you should love MAG and what it has to offer.
5. Teamwork
MAG is not a noob-friendly game. With a massive maximum of 256 players online at once in a match, teamwork, tactics and patience will be the key to success. This definitely isn't an individual-focused game, and considering the size of the maps and teams, working with your teammates will be integral to success.
Why is that a good thing? Well, it eliminates players who are normally great on their own and that thrive in games like Modern Warfare 2. You can still go at it on your own, but the teamwork focus definitely adds a sense of realism to the experience.
4. MMO
MAG seems to be the first shooter that really gets the MMO FPS experience correct. You choose your faction at the very beginning, which you'll be stuck with forever.
Why is that a good thing? Well, it means you actually become part of something big; bigger than the 64, 128 or 256-player matches. You become part of a family of gamers, and because you can't leave that faction, you subconsciously feel part of a community more so than you would have ever felt like in previous online shooters.
3. MMO with aggressive RPG elements
Continuing on from No. 5, MAG is not an individualistic experience. Unlike Modern Warfare 2 where you can switch between classes with ease and no consequence, your style of gameplay and dedication to a specific weapon will have effects on how you play with other weapons. So if you choose to play with a basic machine gun and upgrade it constantly, switching suddenly to a sniper rifle wouldn't be a good idea.
Just like in any good RPG, once you pick a specific path, you're typically bound to it. So, choose your upgrades wisely.
Why is this a good thing? It means players won't be changing things up depending on the map. In Modern Warfare 2, players switch between Assault Rifles and Snipers if they believe they have a legitimate chance at getting more kills on a larger map. In MAG, if you choose to upgrade and work with an Assault Rifle, you'll be bound to it forever based on your skill.
2. Unique respawn system
The matches in MAG are massive. Long and massive. So, you should expect to be dying a lot. Because of this, having immediate respawning would most likely cause a bit of a clog in the maps considering the amount of players online, even though the maps are larger.
Once you die, you're given a 20-second waiting period to enter in again with every other person that has died in that 20-second period. So at any one point, there could be upwards of 100+ people respawning at the same time.
Why is this a good thing? Well, it helps slow things down a bit. Things will get hectic, no doubt, but say you were to die with 19 seconds left in the next respawn period. You have 19 seconds to check your weapons, change things up a bit and counter any issues on the map you might be facing.
1. Maximum of 256 players. TWO. HUNDRED. AND. FIFTY. SIX!
So you probably wonder how a FPS with 256 gamers would work, and yeah, we do too. But with 64 players being the bare minimum, large maps, a unique respawning system and great RPG elements, this definitely seems like the kind of game where the more there is, the merrier...or more hardcore...or more intense.
Why is this a good thing? Well, like we mentioned above, the RPG elements, blended together with the whole MMO experience, give you a massive world with bullets flying everything and explosions going off every second. In other words, one hell of a war zone!
MAG will be released exclusively on Playstation 3 on February 11th, 2010.
